To all whom/ it may concern:
Beit known that l, HOMER C. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Connellsville, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Haine-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in hame-fasteners.
The object of this invention is to construct a hame-fastener which shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, easy to manipu late, not liable to get out of order, and which shall be thoroughly effective for the purpose for which it is intended.
My invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed outin the claim, and illustrated in the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved hame-fastener complete. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the pivoted catch. Fig. 4L is a similar view of the sliding hame-fastener section. Fig. 5 is a transverse vertical section through the main section of the fastener. Fig. 6 illustrates the cross-sectional shape of the sliding member of the fastener.
Similar numerals of reference indicate cor responding parts in the figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates the main body or section of my improved hamefastener device, provided at one end with the usual hook 2 for engaging the lower end of one of the hames, and 3 represents the other or sliding and adjustable section of the fastener, provided with a hook 4f for engaging the lower end of the other hame. The lower concave face of the section 1 is provided with a longitudinal groove or recess 5, extending practically the entire length thereof, and is also formed with two lips or flanges 6 6, projecting inwardly toward each other and eX- tending partially over the groove or recess 5, as shown in the drawings.
7 indicates a slot through the upper wall of the section 1 extending longitudinally thereof and adapted to receive a pivoted latch 8, having a downwardly-projecting pin or hook 9 for engaging the sliding section 3 and with a thumb-piece 10, whereby the catch S may be lifted out of engagement with the sliding section 3. The catch 8 is pivoted within the slot 5 5 7 at one end thereof, as shown at 11, and is held in place by means of a iiat spring 12, secured to the upper face of the section 1 by means of a screw 13 at one end and bearing at its other end upon the upper face of 6o the pivoted catch. The pivoted catch 8, at its upper outer edge, is formed with oppositelyarranged laterally-extending flanges 14,which rest upon the outer face of the section 1, thus limiting the forward movement of said catch and holding the same snugly in place whether thesliding section 3 is in place or not.
The sliding section 3 extends nearly the entire length of the groove or recess in the section 1 and is prevented from escaping 7o A therefrom by means of lips or iianges 6, above described, and at suitable intervals throughout its length said section 3 is provided with perforations 15, which are adapted to be engaged by the pin or hook 9 on the pivoted 7 5 catch 3. The outer face of said pin or hook 9 is beveled off, as shown, and the advance edge of the sliding section 3 is also beveled off, as shown at 16, so that when said end is inserted it will lift the catch 8 in the manner well un- 8o derstood. By reference to Fig. 5 it will be observed that the side walls of the groove or recess 5 are inclined, diverging downwardly. The corresponding side edges of the sliding section 3 are likewise inclined or beveled, the 8 5 object being to enable the parts to iit more snugly and closely together, thus preventing the rattling, &c.
Thus a simple, neat, and durable hamefastener is provided, by means of which the 9o haines may be quickly and easily secured together or separated and adjusted.
In a hame fastener, the main section thereof provided with a longitudinal groove having reversely inclined side walls, inwardly projecting lips or flanges overhanging said groove at each side, and a longitudinal slot for the reception of and in combination with a pivfoted catch hinged to said section, resting in 13o said slot and formed in its outer face with a longitudinal groove, laterally projecting and longitudinally extending side flanges formed integrally with said @meh and resting` upon the outerfaee of the main section, a leaf spring Secured to the main section and resting and sliding at its free end within the groove of said pivoted eateh and a detachable sliding section formed with reversely inclined side edges and provided with a series of splztyed perforations adapted to trip and be en gagged by said pvoted enteh, substantially :is :md for 1o the purpose speeilied.
