Be it known that I, 'WILLIAM F. MORROW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an attachment for mucilage-bottles; and the object is to provide an improved brush-scraping device to remove the surplus mucilage taken up by the brush when dipped in the mucilage and thus prevent the accumulation of mucilage around the bottle-mouth.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a sectional view of a mucilagebottle and the invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective inverted view of the improved scraping device. Fig. 3 is a view showing a slight modification of the device.

Referring to the drawings, the letter A designates a mucilage-bottle of usual form hav- .ing a neck b, C the brush, and d the usual capshield, which fits over the bottle-mouth.

It is a well-known fact that when a brush is dipped into a mucilage-bottle it takes up a surplus amount of mucilage, especially when the bottle is full, which ordinarily has to be removed by pressing the brush against the interior wall of the bottle-neck. This, however, is objectionable, because the mucilage gradually accumulates and stops up the neck and takes up dirt and other foreign substances, which tend to cake the gum onto the interior of the bottle-wall and also on the brush. By my invention this objectionable feature is obviated.

My invention consists in a oylindric metal tube E, fitting down within the bottle-mouth and provided at its top rim with a lateral flangef, to fit over the rim edge f of the bottle and thus support the tube. The lower end of the tube is provided with an opening g and a scraping-bar It. In the forms shown in Figs. l and 2 this bar closes onehalf of the bottom of the tube and leaves an opening g for the brush C to pass through. i/Vhen a surplus amount of mucilage accumulates on the brush, the scraping-bar h will, when the brush is being withdrawn, scrape off or remove the surplusage of mucilage, leaving only a small amount on the brush. Thus it is not necessary to press the brush against the interior wall of the bottle-neck, and as the removed mucilage drops back into the bottle none accumulates to choke up or cake in the bottle-neck.

In the modification shown in Fig. 3 the scraping-bar h is formed by partially remov ing a portion of the metal of the tube and bending said portion so as to take position crosswise inside of the tube, a slot i being left in the Wall and the opening g formed for the brush.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination with a bottle having a neck the interior wall of Which is smooth or unobstructed, of a brush scraping device comprising a tube fitting down into said neck, the upper end of said tube provided with alateral liange resting upon the rim-edge of the bottle= mouth and the lower end thereof terminating adjacent the lower end of the bottle neck, and the tube having a portion of its metal at one side partly removed and said partly removed portion bent to a position crosswise inside of the tube and forming a scraping bar, substantially as described.
