MOUTHPIECE FOR METAL MUSICAL. INSTRUMENTS.
SPECIFICATIdN forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,939, dated September 24, 1895.
Application filed January 3, 1395- Serial No, 533,732- (No model.)
10 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL GOTTLOB SoHUs- TER, a resident of Markneukirchen, German Empire, have invented a certain new and use ful Improved Mouthpiece for Metal Musical Instruments, of which the following is a true specification.
This invention relates to metal musical instruments having mouthpieces covered with rubber or other material which is a non-conductor of heat.
The object of my invention is to provide new and improved means for detachably or removably securing the non-conducting covering in position on the mouthpiece.
To accomplish this object, my invention consists in the features of construction and the combination or arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The subject of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figures 1 and 2 are longitudinal sections of two different forms of construction.
The covering is attached to the mouthpiece in the manner hereinafter described and claimed.
The mouthpiece a in Fig. 1 is provided inside with an externally-threaded ring b, capable of being screwed therein, which insertion receives the covering a. If the ringb be screwed into the mouthpiece, it clips the covering firmly and the latter is strained down and connected with the mouthpiece at d by means of cords or wires, for which purpose a suitable annular groove or recess is provided in the mouthpiece. The fastening is covered by means of a ring e, screwed thereon,
mouthpiece at h and the threaded ring f 5 screwed on the body of the mouthpiece at i, so that the covering 0 is firmly clamped at Z. After this the covering is stretched over the part f and firmly in the annular groove 9 on the body of the mouthpiece. A ring cl is then screwed on the body of the mouthpiece a at- Zc in the same way as in Fig. 1, covering the fastening or joint and pressing the covering against the partf.
' What I claim, and desire to secure by Lette rs Patent of the United States, is-
A mouth-piece for a metal, musical instrument, having threaded parts, an annular groove between said threaded parts, a removable and replaceable non-conducting covering applied over the face of the mouth-piece and having one edge inserted into said annular groove, and a pair of threaded rings engaging the threaded parts of the mouth-piece and respectively acting against and clamping the outer and inner edge portions of the said non-conducting covering, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
CARL GOTTLOB SOHUSTER.
