Description

(No Model.)
O. L. RENZENBRINK.
. OLARIONET REED PROTECTOR. No; 425,521. Patented Apr. 15,1890.
. WITNESSES. l/VVE/VTOR czzf ljferzzegariyir ATTORNEY B UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES L. RENZENBRINK, OF CANTON, OHIO.
CLARION ET-REED PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,521, dated April 15, 1890.
Application filed November 11, 1889. Serial No. 329,864. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that '1, CHARLES L. RENZEN- BRINK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Olarionet-Reed Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is an isometrical view showing the cap placed in proper position to protect the reed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the cap, showing its slotted arm. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the cap closed.
The present invention has relation to clarionet-reed protectors; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawwas.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the clarionet, which may be of any desired style or kind.
To the mouth-piece D is attached the reed a, which is located substantially as shown in the drawings, and is held in the desired position by means of the ring or band C.
For the purpose of properly clamping the reed the ring 0 is formed open and is provided with the extensions 19, which extensions are provided with screw-threaded apertures, which are for the purpose of receiving the screws 0.
In the drawings two screws are shown; but it will be understood that I can accomplish the same object by the use of one screw.
The cap D is preferably formed of sheet metal, and, as shown, is provided with thelip d, which cap and lip are found to correspond with the form of the end of the mouth-piece B. The cap D is provided with the slotted arm 01, which receives the retaining-screw d Said retaining-screw passes through a screwthreaded aperture in the post e, which post is formed integral with the ring O, or, if desired, said post may be formed separately and attached in any well-known manner.
In use, when it is desired to remove the cap D, the retaining-screw d is loosened, when the cap D is free to bemoved forward untilthe 5 5 lip d is disengaged from the end of the mouthpiece B, at which time the cap is free to be turned back and out of the way, as indicated by the dotted lines, Fig. 3.
It will be seen that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to protect the reed of a clarionet without incasing the entire instrument.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLettcrs Patent, is
1. The combination of the mouth-piece B, provided with the ring O, having the post 6, the cap D, provided with the slotted arm (1, and the retaining-screw d substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the ring 0, provided with the extensions Z), having the screwthreaded apertures adapted to receive the screws 0, the cap D, provided with the lip d, and the slotted arm (1, the post 6, and the retaining-screw (Z substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence 80 of two witnesses.
CHARLES L. RENZENBRINK.
