Description

AhHERZING] PAPER BAG.
(No Model.)
Patented Sept. 24, 1895.
Um'rnn STATES PATENT @FFEQEe ALBERT IIERZING, OF ST. MARYS, OHIO.
PAPER BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,853, dated September 24, 1895.
Application filed May '7, 1895. Serial No. 548,419. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT HERZING, of St. Marys, in the county of Auglaize and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in PaperBags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in paper bags more especially designed for use in shipping and handling blankets, the object being to provide a bag especially well adapted for the purpose indicated and that can be used over and over again.
lVith this object in View my invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein the bag is shown distended, Figure l is a side elevation of a bag embodying my invention, showing a portion of that side of the bag against which the upper portion is folded in closing the bag broken away. 7 Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation corresponding with Fig. 1, except that in Fig. 3 the bag is shown closed. Fig. i is a section on line a 4, Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, a designates the upper portion of the bag, that is in closing the bag folded against one side of the lower portion of the bag, in which lower portion of the bag the blanket or goods are packed, dotted line b in Fig. 1 indicating the line upon which the upper portion of the bag is folded to form a flap for closing the bag. The corners of said flap-forming portion are preferably folded on lines o 0 before closing the bag. A piece cl of cloth or fabric is cemented in any approved manner to that side of portion a that is on the outside upon closing the bag,
which piece 01 is arranged in such a manner that a portion of said piece shall, in the open position of the bag, protrude at the upper eX- tremity of the bag, as shown at d, Figs. 1 and 2. Piece 02 is preferably attached to the inner surface of the supporting side of the bag, and portions d of piece d are shown provided with an eyletd for accommodating the insertion of a piece 6 of string or tape that is used in securing the upper flap-forming portion of the bag in its closing position. The outer surface of that sideof the bag against which the flap-forming portion is folded in closing the bag is provided, a suitable distance from the line of folding, with a piece g of cloth or other suitable fabric suitably cemented to the bag, and a piece of paper h is preferably cemented to the outer side of said strip or piece g and to the body portion of the bag. Strip or piece 9 is so arranged that a portion of it shall extend above member h, as at g, and be loose, and said member 9 is provided with an eyelet g for the insertion of the string or tape employed in securing the flap-forming portion of the bag in its folded or closing position.
By the construction hereinbefore described it is obvious that the bag can be used over and over again, and the fastening device with which the bag is provided is so simple that the expense incurred thereby is trifling.
What I claim is A paper bag, whose upper portion is adapted to be folded against the lower or body-portion to form a flap for closing the bag, said flapforming-portion having attached a piece of cloth or fabric provided with an eyelet, and the body-portion of the bag, upon, the side against which the flap-forming-portion is folded in closing the bag, having attached a piece of cloth or fabric provided with an eye let, substantially as shown, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification, in the presence of two witnesses, this 11th day of March, 1895.
' ALBERT I-IERZING. Witnesses:
ANTHONY CULLIToN, EMIL KOOF.
