Be it known that I, ERASTUS J. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Enid, in the county of Garfield and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Center Fastening for Breast-Straps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in breast strap fasteners, and has for its object to replace the ordinary central slide and end snap applied to breast-straps by a simple fastening device which may be manufactured at slight cost, which may be manipulated with ease, and which will be found convenient and reliable in practice.

It has heretofore been customary to make a breaststrap in one piece and to secure one end thereof through one of the hame-rings and provide the opposite end of the strap with a snap-hook adapted to fasten into the other hame-ring after having been passed through a ring at one end of the neck-yoke, the latter hanging in the sag of such strap or resting upon the usual iron slide arranged centrally of said strap. This invention contemplates securing the opposite ends of the breaststrap permanently to the harnerings and dividing said strap centrally or thereabout, and applying to the adjacent ends of the strap thus divided a novel construction of coupling or fastening device which shall at one and the same time serve to secure such strap ends together and take the place of the usual slide for receiving the wear of and supporting the ring at the end of the neck-yoke.

To the above end the invention consists in an improved breast-st rap fastener embodying certain novel features and details of construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings, and finally pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through an improved fastener constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom perspective view of one of the fastener members. Fig. 3 is a top perspective view of the other member.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.

The improved fastener contemplated in this invention is composed of two members 1 and 2, of which 1 is the main an 2 the hook member. The member 1 is preferably made considerably larger than the member 2 and is formed in its outer surface with a recess or depression 3 of a size and shape corresponding to and adapted to receive the hook member2 in the manner shown, whereby when the two members are brought together and united they will present the appearence of but a single piece.

The member 1 in that end which is not cut away or recessed to receive the hoop member is formed with a segmental pocket or recess 4, which opens downwardly and is adapted to receive the hook of the member 2.

The member 1 is provided at its opposite end and upon its lower side with an integrallyformed lug 5, in which is cut a notch 6, the mouth or neck of which is reduced by a project-ing lip 7, as shown, the purpose of which will hereinafter appear. The hook member is provided at one end with an integrallyformed hook S, which is adapted to be inserted in the segmental pocket or recess 4 of the member 1 and to engage therein with the transverse pin 9 of a strap-loop 10, as illustrated in the sectional View. Atits opposite end the hook member 2 is provided with a notch or recess 11, adapted to receive the downwardly -projecting lug 5. The transverse pin or shaft of a second strap-loop12 also crosses and lies within said notch or recess, and is formed therein with a cam or eccentric 13, which is adapted when the straploop 12 is thrown outward or at right angles to the hook member to enter and pass through the mouth or neck of the notch or slot 6 in the lug 5 of the member 1, and which is further adapted. when the strap-loop 12 is vibrated into the position shown in Fig. 1 to enter the widened portion of the notch or slot 6 and rest behind or inside of the projecting lip 7, thereby locking the two members of the device together and effectually preventing their separation except when the strap-loop 12 is vibrated outwardly and downwardly at right angles to the member in which it is journaled. described, has no frail or delicate parts to become broken or get out of order, and is therefore very durable and will be found of great convenience in practice.

The device also possesses the advantage of being perfectly safe, there being little or no chance of the members becoming separated except when manipulated by the attendant.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is

The herein described breast-strap fastener comprising two members, one of which is formed with a segmental pocket or recess for the reception of the hook on the other member, and also provided with a lug having an angular notch or slot formed therein, a pin extending transversely across said pocket or recess, a hook on the other member for ena im said in a revoluble in or shaft carried by said other member and provided with r a cam or eccentric for engaging the angular notch or slot referred to, and means for opcrating said pin or shaft, substantially as described.
