T.. HOLLIS. TOOTH BRUSH CHARGER.
Patented Aug. 6, 1895.
"Mr/Vases:
- 4 INVENTOR ATTORNEY.
- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS HOLLIS, OF MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
TOOTH-BRUSH CHARGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,934, dated August 6, 1895.
Application filed May 3,1895. Serial No. 547,980. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS Hours, of Milton, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Tooth-Brush Charger, of which the followmg is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, broken away to show the sliding valve and operating-stem,
to the valve being shown closed. Fig. 2 is asection on line 2 2 of Fig. 3, the sliding valve being shown open. Fig. 3 is asection on line 3 3 of Fig. l looking in the direction of the arrow.
My invention consists in the arrangement of parts and in certain details of construction. In the drawings, A is a funnel-shaped receptacle for tooth-powder fast at the bottom of the box 13. The box B is attached at one end to the wall-plate D, which is connected also to the receptacle A atthe upper rim of A, and which serves to support the parts A and B, and by means of which the charger is hung upon a wall. A slot b in the'top of box B permits the contents of receptacle A to drop through into box B when the slot is not closed by the sliding valve E, which carries at one end upon its upper side the stirrer e, which travels in the slot 1), and which serves also as a stop to prevent the outward movement of valve E under pressure of spring F. The valve E has upon its under side an operating-stud e, against which one end of the spring F presses, the other end bearing against the wall-plate D. A shallow drawer G rests upon the bottom of box B, having across its front end a slightly-raised edge 9.
The operation is as follows: The normal position of the sliding valve E, under pressure of the spring F, is as far forward as stop 6 will permit it to go, the slot 1) being thus closed. The receptacle A being filled with tooth-powder, the tooth-brush is inserted at the outer end of box B and pushed inwardly, the bristles being turned upward.- The end of the tooth-brush coming in contact with stud e, the stud, and the valve E to which it is fast, are forced back against the pressure of spring F. The slot 1) is thus unclosed and the tooth-powder, stirred about by the move- .ment of, stirrer 6, drops through the slot upon scribed.
THOMAS HOLLIS.
