Application filed August 16, 1910. Serial No. 577,474.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX KARPIsEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilber, in the county of Saline and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to oil cans and more particularly to the spring bottoms thereof. 7
The object of the invention is the provision of a novel reinforcing means for the bottom of oil cans which enhances their longevity.
Further objects of the invent-ion will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of .this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional View. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation.
Referring more particularly to the drawing 1 represents the ordinary oil can having a spout 2 and a removable bottom 7 with a central wear plate thereon indicated at 8. The bottom is provided with a recess 9 in which the hooked lower end 10 of the reinforcing spring 11 is adapted to engage.
The spring 11 is substantially U-shape with p the leg having the hook 10 extending up parallel with the sides of the can 6 and its opposite leg curved outwardly to engage the wear plate 8. It will be readily seen that this spring may be attached and detached very conveniently and is properly held in place.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is An oil can comprising a receptacle, a removable fiexible bottom therefor having a recess therein, a wear plate formed on the bottom, and a U-shaped spring having a hooked end detachably seated in the recess and adapted to be engaged by the receptacle for holding it in position whereby its opposite end will be adapted to move freely over the wear plate.
