Description

UNIT@ STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. HENDERSON, OF FRANKLININDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TINMENS EDGlNG-TOOLS.
i Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,342, dated May 1, 1866 antedated April 16, 1866.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. HENDER- SON, of Franklin, Johnson county, and StateA of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Edging-Tools, of which the following is afnll and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin gdrawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a device in edgingtools, by means of which the process is facilitated.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my machine. Figure 2 is atransverse section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section, showing the mode ot' operating` upon the metal.
A is the body of the machine, at each end of which arejonrnals a, which support the vibrating clamp B.
At points a are journals to receive the ends ofthe edging-clamp O,Wl1ich is slotted at b, to correspond to the'tinmans forming-tool.
To the vibrating clamp B are permanently secured the arms c. A spring, d, is secured to each arm c, the free end ot' which has a knobbed projection, d', which tits into a depression in the disk c. The disk e is secured to the edging-clamp C.
A handle, f, for operating the machine, is attached permanently to the exterior of onev of the disks e.
Upon the upper face ofthe body ofthe machine are gaging-slides g, which pass beneath the vibrating clamp B. Their motion is regulated by set-screws g.
A set-screw, c', in the free end of arms c presses upon the spring d. l 1
Operation: The pan or vessel to be edged, in order to facilitate v the operation of wiring, has one ot' its edges placed beneath the vibrating` clamp B. The depth ot' edging is measured by means of gaging-slide g, as shown in Fig. 3.r The handle f is then thrown up, as shown in Fig. 2. The knob Zis thrown out of the depression in disk e, thus causing the vibrating clamp B to nip the edge of the metal, thus holding it in position until, by means of e( ging-clamp C, the metal has assumed the desired shape.
Having described my improved edging-tool and the application of its various parts, l make the following claim ln combination with trame A, the gagingslides g, vibrating clamp B, arms c, springs d, edging-clamp G, and' disk e, as above described, and for the purpose set forth.
WILLIAM H. HENDERSON.
