SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent "No. 542,891, dated July 16, 1895.

Application filed March 18, 1895.

, vide an easy-fitting and comfortable underwaist, readily adjustable as to size, at the same time having the advantages of adjustability and adaptability to the movements of the body, and facility for the attachment of skirts, drawers, and stockings thereto.

The invention consists in the following construction and combination of parts, the features of which will first be fully described in detail and the points of novelty therein then set forth and claimed.

In the drawing,A represents the waistband, which in order to fit nicely is preferably cut slightly curved, and is of unusual breadth in order to provide a comfortable fit and sub-. stantial support when the stocking-supporters, drawers, skirts, &c., are attached thereto. B are the buttons which mainly support such garmentsl C are the shoulder-straps converging at a point D in the back, from which diverging elastic straps are connected, which in turn are secured to the waistband in the rear, as shown.

E are converging adjustable straps, secured to the front of the waistband on either side, and pass freely through loop-slots F, the latter being also secured to thestraps C. These latter straps O are adjustable by means of the sliding locking-clasps G, the straps also passing through the loop-slots F.

The straps O and the straps E are preferband and are stitched fiat thereon. -tons B may be strung upon this tape, being Serial No. {542.175. (No model.)

This skeleton form of waist is not open to the objection of adding to the clothing of the youth, nor adding to or interfering with suitable Weight and thickness of underwear which may be selected.

' I are tape bands which surround the waist- The butpreferably provided with two large eyes for that purpose, which'permits the whole tape being passed therethrough.

The broad'waistband A has two strips or rows of braid stitched upon its outer face and parallel with each other. One strip of braid is secured to the upper edge of the waistband and the other intermediate thereof. The shoulder-straps are secured tothe Waistband between the upper strip of braid and the waistband by the stitches which secure said braid to said waistband, The braid is stitched along both edges except where the buttons are located.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

- The underwaist herein described, comprising the broad waistband provided with horizontally arranged strips or rows of braid stitched upon the outer face thereof parallel to each other, one strip along the upper edge of said waistband, and having aseries of buttons slipped upon each strip of braid, and provided with shoulder-straps secured to said waistband between it and the upper strip of braid by the stitches which secure said upper strip or row to the waistband.
