Description

Sept. 26, 1950 c. BROWN CROSS STRETCH FOUNDATION GARMENT Original Filed July 20, 1946 R O T N E V N Qzrozine 52292072 Patented Sept. 26, 1950 CROSS STRETCH FOUNDATION GARMENT Caroline Brown, New York, N. Y.
Original application July 20, 1946, Serial No.
685,090, now Patent No. 2,484,265, dated October 11, 1949. Divided and this application August 30, 1949, Serial No. 113,143
2 Claims.
This invention relates to foundation garments and is a division of application, Serial No. 685,090, filed July 20, 1946, now Patent No. 2,484,265, dated October 11, 1949.
Broadly, it is an object of my invention to provide a foundation garment which will give desired support to the abdominal region without obstructing movement of the legs.
More particularly, it is an object of my invention to provide a foundation garment which will result in a series of forces so that the different desired parts of the body will be aided and supported without restricting the muscles and movement of the person. In my Patent No. 2,052,163, I have discussed such forces.
A further object is to provide a garment which will exert an arcuate force to cradle and support the gluteus maximus muscles and divergent forces to draw an abdominal panel inwardly to support the entire abdominal region.
Still a further object is to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive foundation garment for both cold and Warm climate which will give the desired support and at the same time present a neat and refined appearance.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of my invention, reference is had to the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a foundation garment.
Fig, 2 is a rear view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a side view thereof.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, numeral 34 represents a foundation garment having a front panel 35 of non-stretchable material, the main body of which covers the abdominal region. Two opposed divergent legs 36 extend below panel 35 and at the ends thereof elastic garters 31 are attached for fastening to the hose. Panel 35 has center piece or leg 38 extending upward to which is attached an elastic extension piece 40 which may have a snap or hook (not shown) so that it may be attached or detached to a bra 39.
The bra 39 has attached thereto shoulder straps 4| which are attached at the front to the upper part of the bra and the rear to stretchable elastic members 42-42 which are folded as shown at approximately 90 angles and cross one another at the central back at approximately 90 to each other. Elastic members 42-42 stretch diagonally as indicated by the arrows permitting shoulder movement and exerting a pull upon the front panel 35.
Lower left side elastic band 43 and lower right side elastic band 44 is attached by stitching to the left and right sides of front panel starting at the groin as indicated by 55 and are attached at the rear to the sides of rear non-stretchable panel 45. Upper left side elastic band 46 and upper right side elastic band 41 are attached by stitching to the left and right sides of front panel 35. The lower extreme points being attached at the groin as indicated by number 55, and the upper and lower elastic bands cross one another over the hips. Upper elastic bands 46 and 41 are attached at the rear to the rear panel 45, the upper and lower bands overlapping one another for about one inch at about the central point where they are stitched at the rear panel 45. Extending below the rear panel are depending legs 48 and 49 which are cut at an angle and are attached to the hose at the side front of the person by garters 50 at the ends thereof, as shown in Fig. 7.
Extending above the rear panel 45 are extending legs 5| and 52 beginning below the small of the back and extending upwardly at an angle diverging from the spine. Elastic bands 53 and 54 are attached to the upper ends of the extending legs 5| and 52 and are detachable from the under arm end portions of the bra 39 by snap fasteners or other fastening means (not shown).
Referring to Fig. 3 it will be noticed that the rear panel 45 with upper leg 52 and lower leg 48, with elastic member 54 and elastic garter 50 presents an arcuate support very much like a hammock so that the elastic pull at the upper and lower ends will provide a horizontal force to the gluteus maximus muscles. The arcuate arrow shown on the figure indicates the direction of the pull. The two headed arrows upon the figure indicate the two Way directional pull upon the garment, while the single headed arrows represent the resulting forces approximately at the points where they are applied.
The garment shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is generally of light weight and open between the bra and the waist so that this garment is more adaptable for summer and warm climate wear.
It is obvious that various modifications and changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a foundation garment of the character described, a bra, a lower front non-stretchable panel having opposed divergent legs extending below said front panel, garters attached to said legs, a rear panel. having upper and lower legs, a central leg extending above said front panel, low- 3 er elastic side bands attached to the sides of said front panel, the lower extreme point of said bands attached to said front panel starting at the groin and running the entire length of the side of the body of said front panel, the opposite extremity of said lower side bands attached to the sides of said rear panel and part of said lower legs of said rear panel, upper side elastic bands attached the entire length of the side of the body of said front panel starting at the groin, the opposite extremity of said upper side bands attached to the side of said rear panel and part of the upper extending legs of said rear panel, the upwardly extending legs of said rear panel being divergent elastic members attached to said divergent legs, said elastic members being detachably secured to the underarm portion of said bra, said bra detachably attached to an elastic extension at said front central leg, shoulder straps attached to said bra at the front and attached at the rear to crossed elastic bands running at 90 degrees to one another, said crossed elastic bands secured to said upper divergent legs at the rear of said garment and exerting a downward and upward pull drawing said front panel inwardly.
2. In a foundation garment of the character described, a bra, a lower front non-stretchable panel having opposed divergent legs extending below said front panel, garters attached to said legs, a rear panel having upper and lower legs, a central leg extending above said front panel, an elastic extension at the upper end of said central leg, lower elastic opposed side bands attached to the opposed sides of said front panel, the opposite extremity of said lower side bands attached to the sides of said rear panel and part of said lower legs of said rear panel, upper side elastic opposed bands attached to the opposed sides of said front panel, the opposite extremity of said upper side bands attached to the side of said rear panel and part of the upper extending legs of said rear panel, the upwardly extending legs of said rear panel having divergent elastic members attached to the ends of said divergent legs, said elastic members being detachably secured to the underarm portion of said bra, said bra detachably attached to said elastic extension at the front central portion, shoulder straps attached to said bra at the front and attached at the rear to crossed elastic bands running at 90 degrees to one another, said crossed elastic bands secured to said upper divergent legs at the rear of said garment whereby an arcuate force is created to exert a downward and upward pull drawing said front panel inwardly.
