TOBACCO-PIPE.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. 540,583, date-d June 4, 1895.
Application led March 8, 1895. Serial No. 540,986-l (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concekm Be it known that I, WILLIAM DEMUTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a pipe which can be readily and thoroughly cleaned and the invention resides in the novel features of construction set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of the pipe. Fig. 2 is a detail view of a stem-V section. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the stem. I
The bowl 1 is provided with astem consisting of Vtwo parts `2 and 3, the part 3 being slipped like a sleeve over part`2 and the stem parts 2 and 3 being secured together by screw thread 4 comprising an external screw on part 2 and an internal screw on part 3. The inner stern part 2 has a part open or longitudinally slotted as seen at 5, and when the part 3 is unscrewed from part 2 the sl'ot 5 gives access to the interior of stem part 2 so that the sedi` ment or matter which has collectedthere can be removed or cleaned away. The stem part 3 can be provided with a tip or mouth piece 6 inthe usual Way. Vhen the stem part 3 is screwed into place, `it of course incloses or covers part 2 with longitudinal opening 5.
By making the internal diameter of sleeve or section 3 sufficiently large a space 7 will be formed between the sections 2 and 3 which space will serve to receive saliva or nicotine. Aplate or partition 3 placed or secured at or near the free end of section 2 will prevent the smoke entering directly into month piece 6 so as to arrest nicotine or juices or like undesirable matter. l
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
Y A tobacco-pipe,l consisting of a bowl l, a tubular stein section 2 provided with an external screw-thread in juxtaposition to the bowl and having a longitudinal slot 5, a stem-section 3 applied over the longitudinally slotted part of the stem-section 2 and having an internal screw-thread engaging the external thread thereof,V a mouth-piece 6 .connected with the stemsection 3, and a partition 8 located in theslotted stem-section at a point in front of the bore of the mouth-piece to prolVitnesses:
