To (ZZZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I, DANIEL O. MCNAUGH- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new Improvement in Dentiscalps and Mouth-Mirrors and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to dentiscalps or dental tools for the removal of tartar from the teeth and it consists in the novel and peculiar arrangement and combination of the several parts of the device, all as hereinafter fully described and then pointed out in the claim.

I have illustrated a type of my invention in the accompanying drawings, whereint Figure 1 is a side View of my improved device. Fig. 3 is an end view of the blade of the dentiscalp, showing the point at each end thereof.

In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout, A represents the handle or main part of the dentiscalp at one end of which is arranged a blade 0, which is formed with a long and practically straight edge, as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3, and with the ends thereof each terminating in a point adapted to enter narrow and angular places between the teeth, in the act of scraping the tartar therefrom. The blade 0 is disposed at an angle to the handle which is curved or bowed out in an opposite direction from-that in which the blade projects in order that the latter may Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same; and

be readily used, for instance, upon the inner surfaces of the front-teeth, in which case the curve or bend in the shank of the handle enables the'user to more readily reach over the teeth in applying the blade. By virtue of this construction the blade is presented to the surface of the teeth from which the tartar is to be scraped, at right angles thereto, or at an angle that is obtuse, instead of a sharply acute one.

A mouth mirror Bis mounted at a suitable point or place on the handle A, which is flattened or enlarged for the purpose of mounting the mirror thereon. This mirror being located at a desired point along the length of the handle may be readily applied by the user of the instrument for inspecting the teeth.

In practice I make the handle and blade of aluminium and I have found by experiment that aluminium possesses certain qualities that make it peculiarly fitted for use as a scraping edge or point for the removal of salivary calculi from the teeth, so that persons who are not professional dentists can safely use such an instrument, without danger of injuring the enamel.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A dentiscalp having the handle thereof en= larged or flattened in combination with a mirror mounted on said enlarged or flattened part.
