SACK-TIE.

SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 536,004, dated March19, 189.5.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JACOB E. WENGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burton City, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sack-Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1, is a View showing a portion of the sack and illustrating the inner end of the attaching rivet, also showing the string holding leather. Fig. 2, is a view showing the tie-bar properly located and the string placed in` position to tie the sack. Fig. 3, is a detached view of the tie-bar and its rivet, also showing a portion of the string, placed in the retaining hook. Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are views, showing the tieebar secured to a sack, also showing different positions of the string. Fig. 7, is a view showing a portion of the tie-bar, and illustrating the string retaining hook. Fig. 8, is a transverse section of the stringl retaining hook, showing the groove.

The present invention has relation to improvements in sack ties, and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement here-V inafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar letters indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.

In the accompanying drawings A, represents the sack, which may be of any desired kind or style, as it Will be understood that my improved device can be applied to. grain bags of all kinds and mail sacks.

The tie-barvB, is formed of metal and is securely'attached to the sack A, at any desired point by means of the rivet ct, the head of which rivet is set into the recess or notch b, for the purpose of preventing the string from catching upon the head of the rivet a. The rivet a, is passed through the sack and the flexible strip C, Which iiexible strip C, is preferably formed of leather.

Forthe purpose of`preventing any accidental displacement ofthe tie-bar B, the collar d, is provided, and the inner end of the rivet a, headed upon the collar d, substantially as illustrated in the drawings.

The sack strin g D is passed through the sack l A, and -also through the flexible'strip C, after which the inner end is knotted as illustrated in Figs. 1 or 4. It will be understood however that the retaining knot can be ti'rst formed upon the tie-string, and the tie string .afterward passed through the material of the sack and the flexible strip C.

The tie-bar B is provided with the hooks e, and f, which hooks are for the purpose hereinafter described and are located substantially as illustrated in the drawings.

In use the tie string D is brought around the sack, substantially as illustrated in Fig.

2, and may be wrapped once or twice around the rivet ct between the tie-bar B and the sack A, after which the string is placed under the hook f. For the purpose of assisting in holding the string the hook f, is provided with the groove g.

It will be understood that many different ways may be employed for securing the tie string D to the tie-bar Without departing from the nature of my invention.

The hook e is formed for the purpose of attaching the fixed end of the string D to the tie-bar if in the event it should become accidentally displaced. A'

For the purpose of providing additional means for securing the tie string the arms a are provided, and are located at right angles to the bar B.

It will be understood that the arms a will assist in guiding the string as it is Wound around the rivet.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

As an improved article of manufacture, a sack tie consisting of the combination of the tie-bar B, located upon the outer side of the sack and provided with the hook f, havling the groove g located upon the under side IOO 2.
