CHARLES E. GEE AND YVILLIAM E. WILKINSON, OF LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS; SAID WILKINSON ASSIGNOR TO SAID GEE.-
MEASURING-PUMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 535,826, dated March 19, 1895. Application filed December 20, 1894. Serial No. 532,452- (No model.)
:To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES E. GEE and WILLIAM E.WILKINsoN, citizens of the United States, residing at Lowell, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Self-Measuring Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to measuring pumps and consists in the devices and combinations hereinafter described and claimed, the object of the same being to gage the amount of liquid discharged by the pump at a single stroke thereof.
In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pump, containing our improvement and arranged in a tank which, with the barrel of said pump, is partly in a vertical section, the discharge-pipe, the piston-rod, and the post which supports the handlever or pump-handle, passing up through a floor, also shown in vertical section; Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the pump-handle and stop-bracket, on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1, showing the gage-link connected with the pump-handle; Fig. 3, like Fig. 2, except that the gage-link is disconnected from said handle.
A represents the floor of a grocery or other store where oil is sold and B, atank arranged below said floor and intended to contain oil.
0 is the barrel of a pump; D, the piston of the same; E, the piston-rod, jointed at its upper end'to a hand-lever or pump-handle F which is fulcrummed at f on a link G, the lower end of which link is jointed at g to a bracket H, secured by bolts to a vertical post or wall I in anobvious and usual manner.
The pump is provided with the. usual valves to admit oil from the tank to the barrel 0 and to prevent the how of oil from the discharge. pipe J back into the barrel. The dischargepipe J is supported by the bracket K, secured by bolts 70 to the wall or post I, and said bracket K also serves to guide the piston-rod F, which passes vertically through said bracket.
The above-named parts may be of any usual construction.
The movement of the pump-handle and therefore the amount of liquid delivered by a single stroke of the pump, is controlled by a collar e, arranged on the piston-rod E below the bracket K and adapted to strike the under surface of said bracket when said piston-rod is raised, said collar being adjustable on said piston-rod in the usual manner but when adjusted, being rigidly held by a set-screw c,
which turns radially in said collar and thrusts against said piston-rod.
When a less quantity of oil or other liquid is desired to be drawn by a single stroke of the pump, a gage-link or gage-rod .L is used and is connected to said bracket K and is detachably attached to the pump-handle. The gage-link L is represented as a rod, the lower end of which passes down through a hole is in the bracket K and is loose therein but is prevented from being drawn out of said hole It by a collar Z, represented as a nut which turns on the threaded lower end Z of said rod, the upper end of said rod being bent into a hook Z which may be passed through a transverse hole f in said pump-handle. A collar, pin or projection l on the rod L above the bracket K prevents said rod from falling through said bracket when said rod is unhooked from said pump-handle.
The not Z, when properly adjusted, is prevented from accidental turning by a set-screw Z which turns radially in said nut and thrusts against said rod.
The downward movement of the piston is limited by the lower end of the barrel or cylinder.
We claim as our invention- 1. In a measuring pump, the combination of a pivoted hand-lever or pump-handle, the piston, the piston-rod, jointed to said lever, the guide-bracket, an inextensible connection detachably jointed to said pump-handle and connecting the same to said bracket, to limit the stroke of said pump, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a measuring pump, the combination of a pivoted hand-lever or pump-handle, the
piston, the piston-rod, jointed to said lever, witnesses, this 14th day of December, A. 13. the guide-bracket, a rod, sliding loosely in a 1894.
hole, with which said bracket is provided and CHARLES E. GEE. having a hook to enterahole, with which said WILLIAM E. WILKINSON. 5 pump-handle is provided, to limit the stroke of said pump, as and for the purpose specified. Witnesses:
In Witness whereof We have signed this ALBERT M. MOORE,
specification, in the presence of two attesting LILIAN E. OWEN.
