UNITE-15 STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TRISTRAM D. BROWN, OF OANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK.
PAIL, PAN, 80C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,546, dated February 19, 1 895.
Application filed July 6, 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, TRISTRAM D. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carlandaigua, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented a certain new, useful, and valuable Improvement in Pails, Pans, &c., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in wash-boilers, pans, pails, 850., having zinc strips to prevent the formation of rust, and it is especially an improvement on the device covered by United States Patent No. 480,555, issued to me August 9, 1892.
The object of this invention is to secure said strip to the sides of the pan or boiler so that it will not become loosened or deranged by constant usage and at the same time avoid impairing the pan or vessel, by cutting the body portion thereof; and further said strip is secured inplace without the use of solder.
The invention consists of a vessel having its sides made full and thus provided with a clamp adapted to hold the zinc, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings: Figures 1 and 2, are sectional views of my invention showing the zinc securedin place. Fig. 3, is a perspective view of the clamp and strip of zinc. Fig. 4, is a transverse sectional view of the clamp and strip locked therein.
The side or bottom of the vessel is made full and the slack thus formed is taken up by pressing the side or bottom up and within the vessel, and forming the fold 1. the parallel flanges 2, 2.
Said fold has The strip of zinc 3,
Serial No. 516,747- (No model.)
is then shaped to fit over the fold, and the edges 4, 4, are adapted to rest under the flanges 2, 2. The folds, flanges and edges, are then pressed together as'closely as possible, (see Figs. 1, 2, and 4,) and thus the strip is firmly secured in place without using solder. The advantages gained by thus securing the strip are; that-more of the surface of the zinc is exposed than in any other similar device not using solder, and the zinc is held more firmly in place than in any other similar device; and that the body portion of the vessel is not cut to put the strip in place, thus preserving the full integrity of the article and avoiding all danger of leakage or loosening of the parts by reason of the attachment of the zinc.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 7 As an improved article of manufacture a vessel having a full side formed with a simple fold pressed up within the vessel, said fold having clamping flanges; a zinc strip adapted to fit over and cover the fold and flanges and having bent edges adapted to pass under the clamping flanges of the fold; said clamping flanges adapted to impinge the edges of the strip firmly against the side of the vessel, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
TRTSTRAM D. BROWN.
