SAMUEL BERGHEIM, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
BREAST-SUPPORTER.
SPECFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 532,756, dated January 22, 1895.
Application filed July 24, 18%. Serial NO. &18,451. (No model.)
To all whom it may ccncern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BERGHEIM, merchant, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, of 62 Grays Inn Road, London, England, have invented a certain new and II11- p'rov'ed Breast-Supporter and BstJmprover, of Which the following is a Specification.
Whereas several forms of cors ets or stays have been devised for the so called improvement and development of ladies figures, my invention has in addition to these advantages the object of forming a real support for the breasts Without the addition of padding or cumbersome material all of which are injurious to the Circulation of the blood and to the health.
In carryingmy invention into effect, I provide a shield Or pad eitherof a cup-shape or semi-cup shape, and form or construct on the inner side thereof and within the borders, a horizontally disposed sloping shelf adapted to receive and support the breast. The said shield is preferably perforated to aliow free ventilation, and the shelf is also perforated for a similar purpose. Around the edges of the shields I attach a pneumatic tube so that undue pressure on the body is obviated. The cup shaped shields can be worn With Ordinary morningdress but With dresses cut low for evening Wear the sem-cup shaped appliance will be nece'ssary.
The appliance may be worn next the body or if preferred outside Or inside the ordinary corset. i
Bands may be attached to fasten around the body if desired, but it will be generally found that the appliance Will be kept in position by the dress or corset worn Over the same.
Figure 1. is a representation of the inside of the sem-cup shaped shield with inside ledge A. and with the pneumatic rim B. and
the band C. for joining the two shields to:
gether. Fig. 2. is a sectional view of the same, on the line 2 2. Fig. 3. is a representation of the outside of the same with pneumatic rim B. and band C. and showing the holes for ventilation. Fig i. is a representation of the inside of the cup shaped shield With inside ledge and pneumatic rim and showing the band C. Fig. 5. is a section view of the same. Fig. 6.isa representation of the side view of the outside of same.
The holes for ventilation are shown in all the figures.
The advantages of this invention are considerable, perfect ventilation being secured, while a constant and firm support is provided for the breasts, irritation and friction is prevented, the breasts are allowed to develop, while a more graceful form Or contour is given to the bust.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, and in what manner the sam-e is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is'- As a new article of manufacture, a breast shield or pad formed or provided on its inner side and within the borders thereof, with a horizontally disposed sloping shelf adapted to receive and support the breast, substantially as described.
Signed at London, England, this Gth day of July, 1894.
SAMUEL BERGHEIM.
