Description
P. AMYoT BRASS IERES April 19, 1949.
Filed 'May 8, 1947 ATTORNEYS .vrinnnvm n nl Patented Apr. 19, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BRASSIRE Pierre Amyot, Quebec, Quebec, Canada Application May 8, 1947, Serial No. 746,697
Claims.
This invention relates to improvements i strapless brassires and has, for its principal ob ject, the provision of a generally improved strapless brassire in which the breast pockets are arranged within a pair of arch-shaped supporting members made of cord stiffened fabric and are secured to the arch-shaped supporting members in a manner which permits free movement of the breast pockets to maintain the breasts in the correct position and to prevent undesirable tension livhan the brassire is drawn tightly around the Other objects, advantages [and characteristic features of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which I have shown a preferred embodiment. Referring to the drawings- Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of my improved brassire as it appears in the hat.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
As shown in these drawings, my improved brassire includes a pair of breast pocket Acups 5 which are preferably made of open-mesh fabric.
Each breast pocket 5 is arranged Within an arch-shaped breast pocket support *6 made of cord-stiifened fabric of substantial stiffness and thickness. As here shown each arch support 5 is substantially U-shaped and is completely enclosed in a sheath 1 of a suitable facing fabric. The lower portions of the legs of each arch-shaped support 6 are connected by faggoting 0 to the ends of an interposed diaphragm band I0 having a curved upper edge Il connected by faggoting l2 to the lower portion of the circular edge of the adjacent breast pocket 5, the remaining portion of the circular edge of the breast pocket being secured by faggoting I3 to the upper vand side portions of the arch-shaped support.
The adjacent legs of the two arch-shaped breast pocket supports 6 are hingedly secured together by faggoting l5 and the outer legs of said arch-shaped supports are secured to straps l'l and I8 which are provided, :at their free ends, with complementary hook and eye fasteners I9 and 20 to enable the brassire to be secured in place around the body of the wearer.
The hinge connection provided between the ad* jacent legs of the two arch-shaped breast pocket supports 6 and the manner in which the breast pockets `are arranged within and secured to these supports and to the diaphragm bands l0 enables the breast pockets to move freely to keep the breasts in correct position and to prevent any undesirable tension which might otherwisT. be caused by tight adjustment of the brassire around the body. The inelastic diaphragm bands I0 also serve to prevent undesirable lengthwise elasticity of the front portion of the brassire and enhances the breast molding effect.
It will 'be noted that the arch-shaped cup supporting members 6 are transversely curved or shaped so that they extend inwardly from the edges of the breast cups 5 in such manner as to be adequately supported by the breasts when the brassire is secured in place around the body of the wearer.
Having thus described the nature of my invention and a preferred embodiment thereof, it will be understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope and spirit of the appended claims.
I claim:
l. A strapless brassire comprising a pair of arch-shaped breast pocket supports made of cordstiifened fabric and arranged in side by side relation with the leg portions thereof directed downwardly, the lower portions of the contiguous legs of said supports 'being directly secured together by stitching, a diaphragm band interposed between and terminally secured to the lower portions of the legs of each yarch-shaped support and having a concavely curved upper edge, and a pair of bre-ast pockets of circular outline each having a portion of its circular marginal edge secured to the concavely curved upper edge of one of said diaphragm bands and having the remaining portion of its circular marginal edge secured to the portion of the arch-shaped support extending above said diaphragm band.
2. A brassire as set forth in claim 1, in which each breast pocket is secured to the associated diaphragm band and arch-shaped supporting member by faggoting.
3. A brassire as set forth in claim 1, in which the inner legs of the arch-shaped breast pocket supports are directly secured together by faggoting.
4. A brassire as set forth in claim 1, in which each arch-shaped breast pocket support is completely enclosed by a sheath of facing material.
5. A brassire as set forth in claim 1, including fastening straps directly secured to the outer legs of the arch-shaped breast pocket supports.
