IMPROVED BENCH FOR CLOTHES-WRINGERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,099, dated March 413, 1866.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SELDEN'A. BAILEY, ot Waterford, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Benches for Wringing-Machines; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a partof this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in constructing a new and useful bench for wringing-machines ot' such form and dimensions that it shall become a valuable article ot' trade and manufacture.

Figure llof the drawings shows a plan View of my bench. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is an end View, of the saine.

I prefer to construct this bench with slats across the top thereof, as shown on Fig. l, in order to render it light in weight and to economize in the amount of material used in its manufacture. I sometimes, however, deem it best to construct said top of light boards, so as to give it additional strength. In very large laundries, when heavy tubs are used, it is sometimes necessary to use boards instead of slats.

My bench A is provided with four or morelegs and stands about tt'teen inches (more or less) above the iioor. At a point about the middle of this bench I attach two upright standards. (Marked a.) I make slotsin these standards, respectively, and insert therein the cross-Slat B. This cross-Slat is designed, in combination with the insides of the standards, to form and I may attach a wringer to projections outi ward therefrom; but in either case I place small ribs on such projections to aid in holding the wringer firmly. I prefer, however, the method herein first described, and shown on the drawings.

In constructing this-bench it is not indis pensable to place the cross-Slat B in slots inA the standards. It may be nailed or bolted to the sides of said standards, but I prefer the form of construction shown in the drawings, as being more neat and permanent.

The mode of operating my device is to place the wringer on the cross-Slat, as above described, and then place a tub on each side thereof. When this is done the operator is ready to commence his labors.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A bench for wrin gin g-machines, constructed and operated as herein specified, as a new article of manufacture, consisting of the bench A, standards c a, and cross-bar B.
