Be it known that I, ANDREW BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Viroqua, in the county of Vernon and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotating Stands; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in rotating stands adapted to be placed in the center of an ordinary dining table and which may be readily removed and folded up when the table is required for other purposes.

The invention consists essentially of two base pieces connected together so as to form four legs, a central shaft, loosely passing through holes in the center of said plates, one or more shelves secured to said shaft and connected together and to a cap, having a recess or bearing in its under side, by means of a strap or support, a series of leaves or platforms hinged to said plates and connected with thecap by means of cords or other supports, and a screen or cover to be used when necessary, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is V a perspective view of a rotating stand constructed in accordance with my invention, the screen or cover being removed. Fig. 2is a side view of the same, folded up. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section, the screen or cover being in place.

In the said drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the base pieces of wood or other material having their ends curved downwardly forming legs 2. At their centers these pieces are cut away at 3, so as to interlock with each other and are formed with apertures through which passes a vertical shaft 4. Secured to this shaft intermediate its ends is one or more shelves 5, the ends of which are connected with a circular cap 6, by means of a metal strap 7. The under side of this cap the upperend of said shaft, and on its upper side is provided with a platform 6". Hinged to the plates 5 are platforms 9, connected to gether and with the cap 6, by means of cords 9.

The numeral 10 designates a screen or cover secured at its upper end to the cap 6. This cover is composed of mosquito netting or other suitable material, having its lower edge free, or disconnected from the stand, so that it can be lifted up.

The operation will be readily understood. When in the position shown in Fig. 3, the stand is ready for use, and is placed in the cen ter of an ordinary dining table. The plates or dishes containing articles of food are placed upon the hinged platforms and the latter may be readily swung into any position desired by any person at the table by rotating or revolving the platform, thus bringing the food within reach.

\Vhen not desired for use the stand may be removed and folded up by disconnecting the base pieces, and turning them so that they will be parallel with each other and then folding up the platforms, as seen in Fig. 2.

Instead of forming the base pieces as described they may be hinged to each other so as to fold up when the device is not in use.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The combination with the base pieces having interlocking recesses or hinges and central apertures, and the vertical shaft passing through said apertures, of the rotatable shelves through which said shaft passes, the strap secured to said shelves and to a cap having an annular recess, the hinged platform connected by cords or other supports with said cap and the'cover secured at its upper edge to said cap; substantially as and for the purpose specified.
