SCiSSORS-HOLDER AND POINT-GUARD.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 530,014, dated November 2'7, 1894.
Application filed October 12, 1893- Serial No.4=87,934. (No model.)
To all whom it may cor worn:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM CHANDLER, of North Bend, in the Province of British 00- lumbia, and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvement in Scissors-Holders and Point-Guards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I
My invention relates to an improved device for the safe closed retention of scissors that are to be carried on the person or be suspended from a wall, and has forits object, to pro" vide a novel, simple and inexpensive scissors holder, that will be" adapted for suspension from the person of the user, so that the scissors will be convenient for quick removal,
a further object being to furnish the scissors holder with a guard that will receive the points of the blades,'and prevent injury therefrom.
To these ends my invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, as is hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of the improved scissors-holder and attached pointguard. Fig. 2 is a side view taken opposite the arrow 5 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an upper end view of the device with scissors in place thereon.
The device represented in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 comprises a skeleton elongated frame A, bent from a single piece of wire, of proper gage to afford stability and avoid objectionable weight. effected by first doubling the wire strand near its longitudinla center producing a ring at, on it where it is bent. From the lower part of the ring, the two wire strands are each -bent outwardly of aproper length, and then return bent, thus producing two similar limbs b, that are parallel and near to each other. From the limbs b the two Wire members of the frame A, are downwardly projected of a proper length, slightly diverging below, and termi- The construction of the frame A is nate in a coniform cup 61 that is produced by suitably coiling the end portions of the strands, one coil being imposed upon and secured to the other, so as to render the frame and cup substantial. Below and near the ring a, there is a keeper clip B secured upon the frame A, which clip is formed of an elastic thin metallic strip of a correct width and thickness to afford the resilience required for proper service. As shown, the keeper clip is bent into loop form at "its center of length, and has its end portions oppositely bent or secured to produce lips c thereon for the convenient introduction of the bows G, that are the terminals of the handle limbs on the scissors blades 0.
The ring a, on the frame A, may be hung upon a hook on the wall, or preferably has a flexible band (not shown) secured to it for a suspension upon the person of the user.
When the described device is to be used for the retention of a pair of scissors, the points of the blades 0, are introduced within the cup d, and the closely folded bows O, are pressed between the lips c, that will resume their normal position in close proximity to each other, and retain the scissors bows clasped between them, and the limbs b that then lie immediately above the diverging curved portions of the bows O prevent the scissors from being upwardly moved until withdrawn from the clip B, so that the scissors when in place will be securely retained until designedly removed.
The quick removal of the scissors may be effected by pressing the bows G, outwardly and at the same time gripping them, so that when released the scissors may be lifted from the cup I), that in service effectively protects the points of the blades 0, to prevent them from injuring the dress or person of the wearer.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with an elongated frame having two limbs projected from its facenear the upper end, and also adapted for suspension, of an elastic keeper clip attached below the limbs, and a point receiving cup on the frame directly below the limbs, and at the other end of the frame, substantially 110 having its ends outcurved in opposite direcas described. tions, substantially as described.
5 2. The combination with awire frame, a
ring on one end of said frame, and two limbs Witnesses: outwardly projected below the ring, of an ANDREW LYONS, elastic loop-shaped keeper clip on the frame SAMUEL CHURTON PAYNE.
