UNITED srarns grnnr OFFICE.
ISAAC DUECK PLETT, OF STEINBACH, MANITOBA, CANAD POCKET-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 12, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Isaac Doecn PLnT'r, of the village of Steinbach, in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Pocket- Holders, of which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to a pocket holder and the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive holder which can be inserted within a pocket holding the top of the pocket open and the bottom flat so that any article can be readily inserted in the pocket and when once in will be held from acci dental displacement therefrom.
With the above object in view the invention consists essentially in a single strand of wire bent centrally more or less in a U shape andhaving the ends thereof coiled the arrangement and construction being hereinafter more particularly described.
Figure 1 a perspective view of the dc vice as it appears when in use in a pocket. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detailed vertical sectional view through a pocket supplied with my device. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed perspective view of the ends of the wire.
In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
The device as disclosed is particularly useful for holding rules and such like articles used by a carpenter in the pocket of overalls worn by him.
Referring to the drawing :1 represents a pair of overalls supplied with the more or less narrow pocket 2 for the reception of at represents my holder which is formed from a single strand of spring wire bent more or less in a U-shape the body 5 of the wire being straight to conform with the bottom of the pocket, the extending ends of the wire (3 and 7 being slightly bowed while the extremities are coiled at 8 and 9. Each oxtrcmity is formed with two coils the second coil being somewhat higher than the [irst coil and terminating at the front or forward side of the first coil. The wire immediately beneath the coil in each instance is straight up and. down between the points 10 11, 10 and 11 and then bowed outwardly the bows terminating at the cross or body piece It 15 to be noticed that the coils are formed on the outer side of the upturned ends of the wire.
The device is inserted in the pocket with the body piece bearing on the bottom of the pocket and the coils located at the top of the pocket. The cloth or such material torming the pocket is inserted in each instance between the end of the second coil and the adjoining face of the first coil away from the lirst coil and allowing it to take its origmal position after he cloth has been pulled par-' tially over the first coil. The bowed parts (3 and 7 of theinserted wire spread the bottom portion of. the pocket so that it lies flat o is tightly stretched while the coils hold the-upper end oi thc pocket open.
With this device applied in a pocket a ruler or such like can be quickly inserted in-t-he pocket through the open top and it will be held against accidental displacement by the tightly stretched lower portion of said pocket it being understood of course that the rule is shoved well into the pocket.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is;-
A safety attachment for pockets comprising a single strand of wire bent more or less in U-shape :torm having a more or less straight body portion resting in the bottom of the pocket, outwardly bowed end portions passing upwardly from the body portion and adapted to spread the sides of the bottom portion of the pocket holding it flat and a pair of coils located at the. extremities of the end portions the coils of each pair receiving between them the upper edge of the pocket thereby holding the top of the pocket open, as and For the purpose specified. Signed at lVinnipog this 20th day of November lilli.
