Patented Nov. 13,1894. I
INVENTEIR WITNESEIEE MJQM .. FHOTD-LITHQ. WASHINGTON, u. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE H. BLISS, OF PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
REFLECTOR AND'SHADE FOR LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,105, dated November 13, 1 894.
Application filed February 3,1890- Serial No. 338.993- (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE I-I. Ease, of Pittsfield, county of Berkshire, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Reflectors and Shades for Lamps, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object to construct 'a reflector and shade for lamps which greatly enhances the light, yet is cheap to manufacture, and may be readily applied.
In accordance with this invention a disk is arranged, preferably adj ustably, on a frame which latter is so constructed as to be carried in a lamp chimney, presenting the disk at one side of the flame.
Figure 1 shows in perspective a reflector and shade for lamps, embodying this invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of a lamp chimney showing the reflector and shade contained in it, and Fig. 3 a rear side view of the reflector and shade.
The disk a, has formed in it, at its lower end, a loop a.
A frame, made of wire or equivalent material, comprises two arms b,b', extendingin opposite directions, a central loop 5 and two vertically extended arms 19 at the outer ends of the arms b, b, to maintain the disk steady. The arms b, b, are curved semi-circularly to fit the interiorof a lamp chimney d, at its lower end The disk at is held on the loop b adjustably by means of a loop a, it sliding thereon frictionally. The disk at is slightly concaved, and brightened on one side.
To place the reflector in position the arms 19, b, are drawn toward each other and the whole inserted in the chimney so that the lower edge of the frame lies just even with the bottom of the chimney or thereabouts. Thedisk a is thereby presented at one side of the flame, so as to serve as a reflector and also as a shade. 5
I do not desire to limit my invention to any particular construction of parts as they may be variously modified.
I claim- 1. The disk at and frame holding it and a loop a on said disk, said frame comprising the spring acting arms I), b, and thecentral loop W, at right angles thereto, held frictionally in said loop a, substantially as described.
' 2. The disk at and frame holding it, and a loop a, on said disk, said frame comprising the spring acting arms b, 1), adapted to fit the interior of a lamp chimney, the central loop b longitudinally adjustable in the loop a and the vertical end arms 6 substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE H. BLISS.
