DUST BRUSH. No. 528,754.
' Patented Nov. 6, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY Z. ZIEGLER AND AUGUSTUS I. WOOD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENN- SYLVANIA.
DUST-BRUSU'H.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 528,754, dated November 6, 1894.
Application filed June 13, 1894. fierlal No. 514,419. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HENRY Z. ZIEGLER and AUGUSTUS I. WVOOD, citizens of the United States, both residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dusters orDust-Brushes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
Our invention consists of a duster or dust brush, which is formed of a pelt of natural wool or hair, the skin of the same being connected with blocks as hereinafter described and claimed, thus producing a superior article for the purpose intended.
Figure 1 represents a face view of a piece of pelt from which a duster or brush embodying our invention is formed. Fig. 2 represents a partial side elevation and partial longitudinal section of the duster or brush. Fig. 3 represents a section of the same at a right angle to that shown in Fig. 2 on line w, 00. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of the parts of the head of the brush, the same being detached and separated.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates the body of a brush or duster which is formed of a piece B of lamb, sheep or goats pelt, the skin of which has its sides 0 cut away as at B, and otherwise generally shaped, as shown in Fig. 1. The sides of the cut away portion are brought together and united by stitches O, forming somewhat of a sack, inwhich is placed the inner block D, and the upper edges 0 of the sack are turned over the'top of said block, and tacked or otherwise secured thereto. In order to cause the sides 0 ofthe sack to lie closely tothe block D, the portions of the latter coincident with the inwardly-projecting edges of said sides left by the stitches O, are'forrned with grooves E to receive said edges, which latter enter said grooves, the effect of which is evident.
F designates an exterior block which is placed on the block D over the edges 0 of the sack, and connected with said block D by means of screws G, whereby the two blocks are connected as one, with the edges 0 firmly clamped between them, said blocks thus constituting the head of the brush or duster, while the body of the same-is composed of the wool or hair of the pelt, whose soft and fiuffy nature renders it admirably adapted for taking up dust and dirt, which may be readily removed by shaking the duster, it being noticed that the edges of the block D are incased in wool or hair, and thus not liable to scratch or injure the objects that are being brushed or dusted.
A stick or handle may be attached to the blocks through the openings H in the latterp Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A duster constructed of a piece of pelt, forming a sack, a block provided with grooves in its ends and inclosed in said sack, and an outer block secured to said inner block, the edges of said sack being between, the blocks, the parts named being combined substantially as described.
