Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
MORTIMER S. HARSHA, OF SYGAMORE, ILLINOIS.
IM PROVED WEATHER-STRIP.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,567, dated February 13, 1866.
f the letters and figures marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to a device which is so arranged with respect to a door and its threshold as to close the crack or space between the door and threshold when the door is shut, while at the same time, when the door is open, it lies prone upon the threshold and is wholly out of the way of passers in and out.
My invention consists in a novel mode of attaching the said adjustable strip to the threshold or casing of the door so as to be readily removed when desired, and as readily replaced When the occasion ot its removal has passed. v
To enable those skilled in the art to understand how to construct and make use of my invention, I will proceed to describe the same with particularity, making reference in so doing to the aforesaid drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a plan or top view of my invention, the door and casing being shown in section, and Fig. 2 represents a transverse vertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference in the different gures indicate the same parts of my invention.
A represents the door, B the vertical posts or casing, and C the threshold.
D is the Weather-strip, arranged upon the threshold in such a manner that when the door is open it lies Hat, and when the door is closed it rises against the cleat E, extending across the lower part ot' the door, as shown in the drawings. At one end of the strip D it is provided with a spindle, d, which enters a suitable bearing in the casing, as shown in Fig. 1, while at the other end it simply rests in and against a box, (marked 0,) so that while it has a free movement about its outer edge it may readily be removed by simply raising one end from the box o and then withdrawing the spindle d from its bearing.
At that end ot' the cleat E next the hinges of the door it is provided with a projection, a, which, striking upon the pin b upon the strip D, raises the strip to the position shown in Fig. 2 when the door is closed.
I claim- The combination and arrangement of the strip D, the spindle d, and box o, when arranged w-ith respect to the bearing a, pin b, and cleat E, as and for the purposes herein speciiied and described.
