Be it known-that I, JOSEPH GHADWIGK, of Wheatlonyin the county of Du Page, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and luseful improvement in Weather-Strips for Doors; and I do hereby declare and make known that the following is a full,`clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to thc accompanying drawings,

and the letters and figures marked thereon, which form part of this specification. y

The object of my inventonis to produce a device to be applied at and lupon the door'and door-sill, whereby the closing of the' door ,operates upon a metallic strip arranged upon the door-sill to raise up one edge of said strip, beneath'a rib upon the door, thus forming a sure protection against wind, dust, and storms, excluding the same efectually from the house. 4 A

To enable those skilled in the art' to understand how to construct andv use my invention, I will proceed to deseribe the same with partcularity, making reference, in so doing, to the aforesaid drawings, in which-- Figure 1 represents a front elevation ofV my invention. Figure 2 is a transverse section of the same; and V l Figure 3 is a plan or top view of the strip and its attachment upon'thc door-sill'.

V V D represents the door, E the jambs or easing thereof; and S the door-sill, all of which are constructed and arranged in any of the known forms and modes. Av represents a strip of metal or other suitable material, which lies iiat upon the door-sill just outside the door, which strip is secured by means of staples b b passing through holes a a in the strip, near its outer' edge,l and being drivenA'in-to the door-sill, as shown. By this arrangement the strip is permitted to be raised up from the inner side, as hereinafterdescribed, so as to lie funder Va. ledge, C, upon the door, as seen in tig. 2, and thus thoroughly exclude the rain, dust, wind, and storm "from the house, which otherwise would enter through the space under the door- Upon the door is arranged a ledge, C, which is kept in la sloping position by means of a triangular-shaped bar, c, having between it and the door a rubber or other suitable elastic strip, .marked d, as clearlyshown in fig, 2, thewhole being firmly secured to the door by meansl of screws s or their equivalent, the said rubber formingia close joint between the ledge C and the door, and so preventing the rain vfrom passing down between the ledge and door, which otherwise would thus admit the rain into the-room and lenter the holes inthe door, in which the screws take hold, thereby causing the wood to decay andthe ledge to become loosened and unscrviceable, thc-roby doing, away wit-hall' theA advantages aimed at in the employment of the strip.
