FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 521,849, dated June 26,1894.
Application filed March 1. 1894. Serial No. 02,001- (N0 m m To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PAUL G. 'CRETGHER and JOHN R. MILLER, citizens of the United 1 States, and residents of Huntsville, in the county of Logan and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fence-Posts, of which the following is a specification. I
Our invention relates to certain improvements in fence posts.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front view of our device or post with one side A, left off; Fig. 2, an edge or side view; Fig. 3, a sectional view through anchor F.
Our post is constructed of two side pieces A, A, having between them the slotted piece B, the Whole secured together by bolts 0. The center piece B has the T-shaped slots through it, through which the bolts 0 holding the pieces together pass. In the edge of piece B are slots of the shape shown, in which the fence wires rest and are clamped. Between .the pieces A, at the bottom, is clamped a brace or anchor E, extending out at each side of the post, which when buried in the post hole serves as a stay oranchor to keep the post in position, Another piece F, clamped between pieces A, is bent at right angles to the face of the post where it extends beyond the post, I one end'being bent to the left and the other" to the right to steady the post in the other direction. The brace G, for the end post is clamped between the pieces A, near their top, while the lower end rests on the ground or a stone, or is buried in the ground. A'rod or I brace H, secures it to post A. To secure the fence wires to our posts, the bolts 0 are loosened sufficiently to allow the slotted piece B to be slid out, as shown in dotted lines, so that the slots in the edge shall extend beyond 0 the edge of pieces A, A. The wires are dropped into the slots I and into the recessed part K, when the piece Bis slid or pushed back until the wires are pressed against the post, and held firmly in the recessed parts K. The bolts 0 are then tightened and the wires are held securely in place. If, in setting the posts one should be set a little deeper than intended, the piece B can be moved up to allow the wires to be straight, the T- shaped slot D allowing this adjustment.
What we claim is- The fence post composed of the clamping side pieces A, the center piece having the T- shaped slots, and recessed grooves, as and for the purpose set forth.
