CHARLES WESLEY HOLM, OF- TROY, OHIO.
IRON FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,060, dated September 20, 1892.
Application filed March 31, 1892- Serial No. 427,219, (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLESWESLEY HOLM, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Troy, in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Iron Fence-Posts; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is an end view of post. Fig. 3 is a side View of same. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section of same. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the post, the brace, and the tightening device.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in fence-posts; and it consists in the novel combination and construction of the various parts, all as hereinafter specified. I In the accompanying drawings I have shown a section of fence illustrating an end post A, to which the invention especially relates. Said post is formed ofT-iron set in the ground at its base and having an oblique forward brace B connected to one of its flanges a and running to the ground.
C designates the anchor for the post, com prising two pieces of rock or stone 0 c, behind which is placed a cross-bar D, of iron or other suitable material.
E designates a double wire, passing through 3 5 a slot 6 in the lower end of the brace B, running backwardly one portion at each side of the post A, thence passing between the anchorstones, and connected to the cross-bar D.
F designates a binder for the wires E, and consists of a plate notched at f f to engage the flanges f f of the post, as shown, and also notched at g g. The wires E run over the portion h of this plate and down through the notches g g to the anchor. WVhen the Wires become slack, the binder is slid up or down on the post, causing a tension on the wires E, which acts upon the lower end of the brace to draw it nearer the base of the post. This action tends to shove the upper portion of the post backward, whereby tension is given the fence-wires.
Having described this invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the post formed of T-iron and having the brace B, of the anchor therefor, the wires connected to said anchor and to the brace, and the binder F, notched to engage the post and for the passage therethrough of said wires, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES WESLEY HOLM.
