Be it known that I, JOSEPH W. BRAMWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Camden, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Tables for Draftsmen and Others, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a table for draftsmen and other purposes, having a top which is adapted to be adjusted in vertical and angular positions by means as will be hereinafter set forth.

Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a table embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents an end elevation thereof. Fig. 3 represents a vertical section of a detached por tion on line w, m, Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale. Fig. 4 represents a horizontal section of a detached portion on line y, y, Fig. 2 on an enlarged scale. Fig. 5 represents a section of the part shown in Fig. 3, taken at a different angle, said parts being separated.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings: A designates the top of a table which is connected with ears B, with the uprights O, which are telescopically fitted in the legs or standards D, the latter rising from and being secured to the base E, and strengthened by the horizontal braces F, F, which are secured to said standards, and diagonal or oblique braces G, which are connected with the bases E and braces F, thus forming a strong structure for supporting the table top A.

Owing to the ears B, the top may be placed in angular positions, and in order to sustain the same there are secured to said top, near the front or rear end thereof, the ears H, to which are pivotally connected the bars or struts J, which extend in oblique direction, and pass freely through eyes K which are swiveled in the bosses L, the latter being screwed or otherwise secured to the sides of the standards D, see Figs. 3 and 5, said eyes moving in the bosses as the angles of the struts J change, so as to accord with the angular position of the top A.

In order to hold the struts in angularly-adjusted position of the top, I employ screws M,

which are adapted to tighten against the washers K in the eyes K, said washers bearing against the struts J, so as to control the same, vas well as the top A.

As the uprights C may be raised and lowered in the standards D, the top A may be accordingly adjusted in height or in vertical direction. In order to retain the adjustment I employ screws N, which are passed through the side pieces P of the'standards D, one end of each screw being secured to a washer R, and the other end passed through a washer R and fitted to a nut S, the latter having a hand wheel T thereon for conveniently operating the same, said washers being located on the opposite side pieces P, see Fig. 4, whereby when the nutS is tightened,said side pieces are drawn together, whereby they clamp the uprights 0, and prevent lowering motion thereof, and consequent change in the vertical adjustment of the top A, it being noticed that the upper parts of the walls D of the standards D are cut away as at. D so that the sides of said standards may be drawn or brought together as above set forth. A

The screws M are provided with a hand wheel U for convenience of operating the same, it being noticed in Fig. 5, that said screws tighten against the washers K, and the latter press against the struts J, so as to hold them in the eyes K. The inner ends of the eyes have stems K which enter the bosses L, and are engaged by pins K which pass through the bosses and freely enter the necks K in said stems, see Figs. 3 and 5. By this provision the eyes are swiveled in the bosses, but they may be removed by withdrawing the pins K thus releasing the eyes.

As the eyes are open in opposite sides, the washers K are prevented from dropping therethrough by means of pins K which pass through the outer walls of the eyes into said washers, as shown in said Figs. 3 and 5.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a table, the hollow legs, each having a slot in the upper part of one side thereof, the uprights O in said legs, the top B pivotally connected with said uprights, and the screw N passing from one side of the leg to the opposite one through said slot, in combination with the struts pivoted to said top, and swiveled to said hollow legs, said parts being combined substantially as described.

2. A table top, an upright and a strut each pivotally connected therewith, a hollow leg adjustably supporting said upright, an eye swiveled in a boss on said leg and receiving said strut, a washerin said eye bearing against said strut, a clamping screw bearing against said washer, and a pin in said eye engaging said washer, said parts being combined sub-- stantially as described.

3. A frame having a pivotally connected top with strut secured thereto, hollow legs secured to said frame and adapted to receive uprights, said legs having vertical slots in their sides extending from the upper portion to the top of the same, eyes swiveled in the sides of said legs, and adapted to receive said JOSEPH W. BRAMWELL.
