UNrrED STATES PATENT OEEIcEe GEORGE W. RICHARDSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
COME-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 520,613, dated May 29,1894. Application filed December 4.1893. Serial No. 492,772. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. RICHARD- SON, acitizen ofthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefnl Improvements in Comb-Cleaners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relatesto improvements in comb cleaners, orrather a device for cleaning combs, and the object 'of my invention is the provision of a simple and inexpensive device substantially in the form of a razor strap by means of which a comb can be quickly and thoroughly cleaned and thus prove a useful and necessary adjunct for the toilet.
The invention consists of a comb cleaning device embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts whereby a useful and practical article is provided as will appear from the following disclosure.
Figure 1 represents a plan View of my im-Y proved comb cleaning device. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section thereof; and Fig. 3 represents an enlarged view of one ofthe cleaning wires.
My-improved cleaning device for combs consists of the cleaning wires A made of two strands of wire twisted and having at one end the loop or eye B, which passes into the opening C in the attaching plate D and said loop receives the rod or pin E for securing the wires to the attaching plate andthe other ends of the Wires are secured in the openings Fof plateF which is secured between the flaps of the leather handle piece F2, by stitches or other means as desired. The loops B of the cleaning wires are arranged in line and the securing pin passes through the aligned loops and secures the wires all in the proper position.
The attaching plate is preferably made of thin metal and doubled upon itself with the series of openings -to receive the loops of the wires on one side and the pin secures the wires in place and the plate can be spread apart to permit new wires to be inserted.
When desired to use the cleaner the plate is hung upon a nail or hook the eye therein permitting this and the hand piece is held in the hand after the mannerfof a razor strap and the comb teeth are passed back and forth over the wires which entirely remove all particles of dirt from between the teeth, and thus an efficient, simple, inexpensive and useful article is provided.
I claim-F The herein described comb cleaning device, consisting of the upper doubled plate having an attaching opening and a series of openings on one side, the two strand twisted cleaning wires having loops fitting in the openings in the side of the doubled plate, the securing pin passing through the aligning loops of the cleaning wires, the plate having a series of openings to receive the other ends of the cleaning wires, and the covering for said plate, all substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. RICHARDSON.
