UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES R. HARRIS, OF WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,889, dated May 15, 18 94.
Application filed December 8, 1893. Serial No. 493,131- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
l 3e it known that I, CHARLES R. HARRIS, of W1ll1amsport,in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in buckles and more particularly to slide buckles. I-Ieretofore it has been the practice to provide such buckles with a closed loop for the attachment of the webbing. With such construction of buckle, it was necessary to first pass the webbing through the loop and then sew it. By thus attaching the webbing, much time was required.
It is the obj ectof this invention to construct a slide buckle in such manner that the Webbing may be sewed to produce a loop and then quickly attached to the buckle.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a View of my improved buckle having a web bin g attached thereto. Fig. 2 is an edge View.
A represents a slide buckle having loops a, a, and a cross bar I), whereby to produce slots or loops 0, c. The cross bar Z) is cut from points in proximity to each end to points near the center of the buckle, to produce tongues 07, d, which are bent rearwardly and disposed parallel with the slots in the cross bar produced by cutting the tongues therefrom. It will be seen that by thus arranging the tongues d, an open loop will be produced, parallel with the rear face of the buckle, and that the loop e can be first made on the webbing f, and afterward placed in the open loop, said loop 6 of the webbing being thus attached to the tongues d.
By the construction and arrangement of parts above set forth, the webbing can be quickly and easily attached to the buckle, after the loop has been made on the webbing, resulting in a considerable saving of time in attaching the webbing to the buckle.
My improved buckleis very simple in construction, cheap to manufacture and effectual in the performance of its functions.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an article of manufacture, a slide buckle composed of a metal plate having slots in the opposite sides thereof extending substantially the length of the buckle, with a cross bar also extending the length of the buckle and located between the slots, and a pair of tongues located back of the plate, in V a plane approximately parallel with the plate and terminating a short distance from each other, substantially as set forth.
2. As an article of manufacture, a slide buckle consisting essentially of a metal plate having loops at a at the sides thereof, outside of the body portion, slots 0 c in the body por tion, cross bar b between these slots, and a pair of tongues d 61 cut out of the cross bar and bent backward parallel therewith with their inner ends terminating a short distance from each other, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHAS. R. HARRIS.
