BURIAL APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No.- 518,976, dated May 1, 1894.
Application filedMay 10,1893. Serial No. 473,652- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT ERNEST WHIT- NEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muncie, in the county of Delaware and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Burial Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following tobea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in burial apparatus and consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and definitely pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a lid with straps attached to the catches, and a casket box shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2, is a view of a strap. Fig. 3, is a detail of a part of a lid.
Referring to the said drawings, A represents the lid of a casket box which is made of boards runningcrosswise of the box and the said boards are held together by being secured to a long strip or board B running lengthwise of the said box, all "as shown in Fig. 1. In each end of the top strip or board B are secured the catches or projections D, which are preferably made of wire in the form of a staple, having their ends driven down into the board so that the body or main part of the catches lies parallel and even with the surface of the said strip B. Under the projecting ends of each of the catches D the said strip B is cut away forming cups or depressions C 0 most clearly shown in Fig. 3. These depressions allow the eyes E of the straps to readily move under the said catches D as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The straps F are provided at their lower ends with an eye or link E, which is riveted or otherwise secured to the said strap, most clearly shown in Fig. 2. Then the casket has'been lowered into the box the straps F are hooked into the the lid.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as follows: A casket box lid consisting of cross boards A and longitudinal boardB, the said board B having depressions 0 over which are secured the catches D, the whole in combination with the straps F and links E, all for the purpose.
set forth. t
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT ERNEST WHITNEY. Witnesses: I
MILT GRAY, ALBERT J. GRIFFIS.
