To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVILLIAM J. Twis'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tulsa, in the county of Tulsa and State of @klahoma, have invented new and useful improvements in Horseshoes, of which the following is a. Specification.

This invention relates to horseshoe attaching devices; and has for its primary objcct the provision of a device of this character which will facilitate the operation of connecting the shoe with or removing the same from the hoof and which will embody means whereby the shoe may be secured in position upon the hoof without necessitating the use of nails.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an attaching device which will be adjustable so as to accommodate itself to hoofs of varying sizes.

A further object of the invention is the provision of means for expediting the operation of connecting the shoe with the attaching device.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

The attaching device comprises a securing member including companion hoof-embracing straps 1, which may be constructed of metal, leather or any other suitable well known material, the front ends of which are spaced relatively and provided with depending lugs 2 having terminal loops 3, in which is mounted for swinging movements the cross arm or bar 4: of a connecting or attaching member 7. This member is provided with end terminals 8, which are offset at 9 and then bent angularly in a forward direction at 10. Between the loops 3 the bar a is provided with an attaching member 11, which is similar in construction Specification of Letters Patent.

with the branches 8 and provided with an angular terminal 12 cooperatively associated with the portions 10 for a purpose to be hereinafter explained. One of the front terminals is provided at its front end with an eye 13, which is adapted to receive the hook let on the opposite member whereby both members are adapted to be flexed relatively at the toe of the hoof and to be securely brought into effective engagement with the hoof.

At the rear ends each of the members 1 is provided with a passage 15. These passages are adapted to receive the clamping levers 16 on angular extensions 17 which rise from a base plate 18, the latter being extended beneath the hoof and shaped so as to accommodate the frog. This plate is provided with flanges 19, which overlie the heel ends of the shoe 20, rivets or equivalent fastening devices 22 being extended through the flanges and through the shoe at the heel ends of the latter, as shown. Intermediate of their ends the members 1 are provided with side braces 22 that are extended downwardly against the sides of the hoof and which have terminals secured to the sides of the shoe, as at 23. At the front end the shoe is provided with upper horizontal recesses 24, in which may be fitted the offset portions 9 of the attaching member 7. From the recesses 2 1 are extended angular passages 25 receiving the extensions 10 and 12 of the member 7. This peculiar angular inclination of the passages 25 together with the fact that the extensions 10 and 12 of the member 7 are fitted in said passages provides means whereby the shoe, at the front end has detachable connection with the se curing device.

After the shoe becomes worn beyond use, the clamping levers on the extensions 17 of the base plate 18 are released from the membars 1 and the latter then drawn laterally from the sides of the hoof, hence the provi sion of the hook and eye connection between the adjacent front ends of said member 1.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying di wings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may lugs and extending downwardly therefrom in the direction of the shoe and having horizontal portions fitting in the horizontal recesses and having angular portions extending from the horizontal portions and fitting in said downwardly and forwardly extending passages.
