ABe it known that I, JOHN F. RIDDER, of Quincy, in the county of Adams and Stateof Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billor Account Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

I My invention is an improvement in bill and account holders, designed for greater simplicity, cheapness, compactness and durability of construction and ciency of operation. y

Other objects and advantages ofthe invention will appear in the following description, in which I have set forth fully the details of construction and the essential features thereof, and illustrated them in the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference designatecorresponding parts.

Figure l is a vertical elevation of my improved holder. Fig. 2 is a section through the line ocFig. l. Fig. 3 is a section through the line y yFig. l, and Figli is a modification.

Reference being had to the above figures A 'represents the main portion ot the `holder,

which is constructed of paste-board, wood, metal, celluloid or other suitable material, and in order to add to the beauty of the article, it is my intention to cover the holderwith leather, cloth or enamel. s

, In the accompanying drawings Ihave represented my improved holder in a two leaf book form, but I do not desire to conline myself to any particular number of leaves composing the holder, as a single leaf may be deemed sufficient for some purposes.

Secured to the end of the portion A is the upwardly projecting V shaped clasp B which is made of metal, celluloid or other suitable material, the lower edge C of which is intended to press firmly against the pad, book or tablet D, thereby holding it in the required position. Y

In Fig. 4,'I have shown a method of securing the clasp B to the holder A, which consists of cuttingagroove inthe end of the base certainty and effi- A and inserting the metal clasp as shown, or the-clasp may be a continuation of the base A as desired.

.In the drawings, Ihave represented the pad D in bill form, but either receipt, account, blank, slips or blotting pad may be substituted.

In 'order to utilize space I have constructed a clasp'on the coverE similar to B and adapted to hold a second pad. The two leaves of the book being secured together, when folding by means of the lap F. In case the projection C of the clasp does not press with sufcient force against the pad,

I have supplied the prism shaped strip Grv which is intended to be inserted in the V shaped recess formed bythe clasp, between the clasp and the pad. v

' The construction and arrangement of the several parts of my holder being` thus made known, the operation and advantages of the same will, it is thought, be readily understood.
