Be it known that I, JOSEPH LIsTER,a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will'enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in neckties.

The object of myinvention is to produce a necktie which can be readily attached to the collar button and thus held in position, without the aidof a band surrounding the collar, and so constructed that it may be easily taken apart and washed.

My invention is particularly adapted to be used with turn down. or rolled collars, but it may be used with standing collars. Referring to the drawings A, represents the body portion of a necktie made of any suitable material and having a flap B, at an angle to the body portion. 0 and P, are button holescut in the flap portion B, to receive a button, h.

C, is a spring wire frame made in one piece, having horn like projections D, D, bent to form a loop as at F, andgwith its ends joinedat c,

as shown in Figs. 4 and '5.

E, is a cover made to conform in shape to the frame 0, and in which cover the frame is inserted, except the looped part F, which is left outside of the cover.

The loop F, of the wire frame is adapted to be slipped over the neck of the collar button,

and to thus hold the necktie in proper position on the'wearer.

The necktie is made up in the following manner:Having cut out what I term the body portion and flap, button holes are worked in the flap in the position as shown in Fig. 1, and the button h, inserted through button hole P. The cover E, is put on the frame 0, and the tie is then folded and tied over the covered frame in the manner of what is known as a four-in-hand tie. That is to say, the flap B, is first folded once around the covered frame and under the spring loop while the button h, through hole P, is held at the center of the back of the frame. This folding the flap around the frame brings the other button-hole 0, over the button h, to which the flap is then secured. Thelonger body portion A, is now carried over between the horns and turned down and carried behind the front fold of the flap B, and between it and the covered frame, and then pulled taut, and the tie is completed.

The necktie is very easily applied by simply slipping the loop F, on the collar button, and putting the horns inside the folds of the collar.

When it is desired to use the necktie with standing collars a band may be attached in the usual manner. The frame being made of spring wire holds the tie in proper shape. It will thus be'seen that the band and the cover of the frame are both separated, and neither is permanently attached to anything, but both are easily detached and taken apart for washing, 650.

Having thus described my invention, what 1. A necktie consisting of a detachable body and flap,in combination with a separate spring wire frame and an independent and detachable cover for said frame, the flap of said body provided with button holes to receive a button, and both flap and body adapted to be folded around'and over said covered frame and confined thereto by said button, said spring frame made in one piece detachable from the cover, and provided with a loop by which the same may be attached to a collar button, substantially as described.

2. A necktie consisting in combination of a body portion and flap, the flap out at an angle to the body portion, button holes in the flap, said flap adapted to fold over the body portion and be held in the desired position by a button engaging the said button hole, a spring wire frame in one piece, having horn like proj ections and aloop, and a cover for said frame, substantially as described.

3. In combination with a necktie consisting 5 of a body portion A, a flap B, at an angle to the said body portion, said flap adapted to fold over the body portion, and means forholding the flap in the desired position when so folded, a spring wire frame 0, having horn 10 like projections D, D, and a loop F, said frame inclosed in a cover and placed within the folds of the necktie with its horn like projections extending beyond the necktie, and the loop F, on the outside of the tie adapted to engage with a collar button, substantially as der 5 scribed.
