SABINA HEYN, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
KNEE-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,842, dated January 2, 1894.
Application filed January 25, 1892. Renewed November 10,1893- Serial No. 490,587. (Model-l To to whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LSABINA HEYN, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in Knee-Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accom panyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to a new and useful knee protector.
The object of this invention is to provide a neat and simple device adapted to be used as a shield, in protecting the knees of childrens stockings; and in furtherance of this object, the invention consistsin the construction. combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully described, and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows my protector as fastened to the limb. Fig. 2 shows the protector as opened, while Fig. 3 is a detail of the shield.
The device comprises essentially, the body portion A, and the shield B, provided with a reinforcing strip, the whole being neatly united to form the protector as shown. The body A, may be of stockinet, jersey-cloth, a netted or any other suitable fabric. The body is shaped to snugly fit the limb at the knee, and is opened at one side, so as to be attached without being drawn over the foot. At the top and bottom, as well as at the meeting edges at the side, the cloth is lapped over, so as to reinforce and give the protector a finished appearance. Upon one of the meeting edges, I attach a suitable number of buttons C, the other edge being provided with the elasticloops D adapted to engage the buttons O, as shown in the figures. At the proper place in front, I secure the shield B, preferably made of leather, which shield is provided with the integral reinforcing strip B, and a central V-shaped gore a, as more clearly shown in Fig. 3. The strip B, is secured to the edge of the body A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and offers a purchase to the button loops, as illustrated.
The shield readily accommodates itself to the knee in every position, does not bind and always presents a snug and neat appearance. The protector is supported by being secured directly to the stocking.
I am well aware, that it is not new broadly, to provide a knee-protector having a fabric body and a leather shield, but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is
A knee protector, comprising a body A, of knitted fabric shaped to fit the limb at the knee, and open at one side, in combination with a shield B having a central V-shaped gore and provided at one side with the reinforcing strip B, secured to one of the edges of the body A, a series of elastic loops secured to said reinforcing strip B, and a series of buttons upon the edge of the body A, opposite the loops and reinforcing strip, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SABINA HEYN.
