BLASTlNG CARTRlDGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,792, dated January 2, 1894.
Application filed June 13,1891, Serial 110.3%,104. (N0 model.)
2 7) all whom, 13/, may concern:
Be it known that I, GERSHOM Moonn PE- TERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Blasting-Cartridges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to blasting cartridges, and, it consists in the construction substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
The drawing represents a side elevation, partly in section of thc'blasting cartridge and the arrangement of the fuse therein.
The case of the cartridge is designated by the letter A, and it may be made of any suitable material, and of any proper shape, but is preferably of cylindrical shape and composed of waterproof paper or similar substance. The ends of the case may be closed by disks, preferably of, heavy straw or card board cut to closely fit the internal diameter of the case, and secured thereto by glue or waterproof cement specially prepared. Instead of connecting the disks to the case in the above described manner, which is the one. 1 prefer, it is obvious that they may be secured thereto in any other suitable manner. One of the disks, designated by the letter C, and called the head has an aperture cut through it, by means of a punch, or rather, the stroke of the punch is arrested before it is entirely finished, so that the material being punched out is only partially pushed out and remainsto form What may be termed a removable stopper which closes the aperture d urinethe transportation of the package, and until it is desired to use the cartridge.
The letter E designates a plug of cork, rubher or other suitable material, which is provided with a hole therethrough for admitting the passage of a safety fuse, D. The fuse is first passed through the hole in the plug, and then the latter is pressed into the aperture so firmly as to compress tightly about the fuse and make a Water tight connection.
What Iclaim as new, and desire to secure hy'Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A blasting cartridge comprising a case, and a head having an aperture therethrough in combination with a removable plug of elastic material having an opening, through it, fitting within the aperture of and supported by the head and a safety fuse passing through said opening in the plug and compressed tightly therein, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
