Leon VERHAERT,
0F PARIS, FRANCE.
FLASK WITH STILLIGOUTTE STOPPER.
Application filed November 27, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Leon VERI-IAERT, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at 5 Quai Aux Fleurs, Paris, in the Republic of France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flasks with Stilligoutte Stoppers, of which the following is a specification,
This invention relates to flasks with stilligoutte stoppers and has for its object to so construct a flask of this character as to render the refilling of such flask impossible. This result is obtained by means of a valve of particular form which is pressed onto its seat by a spring the tension of which is so regulated that the valve will only open under the influence of suflicient shakings.
One embodiment of this invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of the improved stilligoutte stopper according to this invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the valve.
In the neck of the flask is securely sealed a valve seat 1. The gap provided in the seat 1 of the valve comprises, above the smoothed conical part 2 forming the seat properly so called, a cylindrical part 3 relatively deep, in which the glass valve 4; is freely slidable. Such valve is provided also above the conical cut out part which is applied to the seat 2, a cylindrical part relatively high, provided with a shoulder 5 for the closure spring 6, as well as with the lateral grooves 7 for the issue of the liquid. The top of such spring is embedded in a gap 9 of a block 10 having battles and which is secured in the housing 11 of the stopper 12, also sealed in the neck. WVhen the flask is reversed and shaken, the valve rises intermittently from its seat and a few drops escape each time through the zigzag conduit 13 provided in the block 10, then through the conduit 14 provided in the stopper 12. The gaps of the seat and valve are so arranged not only to insure the proper guiding of the said valve but also to prevent the latter from moving from its seat or from being placed obliquely; so its operation is made secure whatever may be shakings to which the valve is subjected on the flask being agitated.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1914-.
Serial No. 733,885.
All the parts of this stoppering system, save the spring, may be made of glass, and the contact surfaces of the valve and the valve seat may be smoothed by means of emery. The closure is then absolutely airtight and prevents the passage of any liquid therethrough. Any attempt at refilling, with or without the use of either the up or the pressure, will be made in vain.
Claims:
1. The combination of a flask, a valve seat and a stopper secured in the neck of said flask, a valve 011 said seat, and a spring holding said valve 011 its seat, said spring being sufliciently strong to close the valve overcoming the weight of the said valve and the pressure of the running liquid when the flask is inverted so that the valve will only be opened by shaking.
2. The combination of a flask, a valve seat and a stopper secured in the neck of said flask, a valve on said seat, and a spring holding said valve on its seat, said spring being sufliciently strong to close the valve by overcoming the weight of the latter and the pressure of the running liquid when the flask is inverted, the said seat and the said valve having conical surfaces corresponding to such an angle that they adhere by means of a slight wedging.
3. The combination of a flask, a valve seat and a stopper secured in the neck of said flask, a valve on said seat and a spring holding said valve on its seat, said spring being sufliciently strong to close the valve by over coming the weight of the latter and the pressure of the running liquid when the flask is inverted, the said seat having awide cylindrical cavity and a small conical opening at the bot-tom of such cavity, and the valve having a conical obturating part and a slotted and cylindrical guiding part, both said parts corresponding respectively to the opening and to the cavity of the seat.
4. The combination of a flask, a valve seat and a stopper secured in the neck of said flask, a valve on said seat and a. spring holding said valve on its seat, said spring being strong enough to close the valve by overcoming the weight of the latter and the pressure of the running liquid when the flask is inverted, and a guard block embedded in the stopper, said block having a radial hole, as my invention I have signed my name in an axial hole connecting said radial hole at presence of two subscribing witnesses.
the top of the block, and a lateral groove LEON VERHAERT. leading from the said radial hole and eX- WVitnes'sesi 5 tending to the upper edge of the block. HANSON O. Co XE In testimony, that I claim the foregoing MAURICE RoUX.
