Description

Mel) J E 'YBAGER "o vmno'on FOR sT0 3s, &
,No. 509,012; Patented Nov. 213893.
- WYTNESESE'? INVENTOI? Y 62M Tyw i U $2, ATTORNEY.
UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB E. YEAGER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
OVEN-DOOR FOR STOVES, soc.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,012, dated November 21, 1893.
Application filed March 21,1893. Serial No. 467,068. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern/.
Be it known that I, JACOB E.YEAGER, a citizenof the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and use-.
ful Improvements in Oven-Doors for Stoves, Ranges, and the Like,0f which thefollowing is a specification, due reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
can be made of the interior of the oven or its contents without opening the oven door proper or permitting the escape of the heat confined in the oven; it being the object of my invention to overcome such resultant disadvantages necessary and unavoidable in the use of the oven-doors as heretofore constructed and in common use, by the sudden rapid cooling of the oven-chamber upon the opening of the oven-door, to the detriment of the articles being baked, particularly so with bread and pastry. v
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 a sectional view of the oven-door of the same, taken on the line a:0c.
Referring now to the drawings in which the several parts are indicated by numerals, simi- -lar numerals denoting like parts: 1 is astove, range or the like of any known or desired construction or design provided with a door 2 to the oven thereof.
In embodyinga preferred form of my in- .vention the door 2 is cast or constructed with an aperture. or opening 3 suitably located in the body portion thereof and of any desired design in outline and provided with a continuousseat or flange 4 bordering said opening, and mounted on the seat or flange 4: is a sheet of glass 5 or other suitable transparent material that will stand the heat of the oven without suffering damage. A retaining plate mounting of a cover 9 for the glass 5, as a guard against accidental breakage of said glass, all as clearly shown in the accompanying drawings. 7
It will be apparent that the use of the cover 4 9 may well be dispensed with and that means other than shown for mounting the glass 5 in or over the opening 3 of the door 2, and also the movable cover 9, when employed, may be adopted with equally good result.
I desire it understood that I do not Wish to limit my inventionto the exact details of construction of' parts as shown and described as the same admits of many variations both in construction and design, but may vary the same in any manner the better to carry out the spirit of my invention without departing from the true scope thereof.
I claixn An oven door for ranges or the like provided with jan opening in its body portion, and a seatsurrounding said opening and extending rearward from the body portion, a sheet of glass fitted in said seat and lying flush with the outer surface of the door, a retaining plate secured to the face of the door and overlapping the edges of the glass, and a movable cover for the glass hinged to said retaining plate.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 15th dayof March, A. D. 1893.
