JOHN H. KENNEDY, OF DIXON, ILLINOIS.
OVEN ATTACHMENT FOR FURNACES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1915.
Application filed April 16, 1915. Serial No. 21,679.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,'JOHN H. KENNEDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dixon, in the county of Lee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Oven Attachments for Furnaces, of which the following is a specification.
The appliance which is the subject matter of the present application for patent is designed for the purpose of converting the fuel-feed opening of a furnace into an oven for baking and cooking purposes.
The invention has for its object to provide an attachment of the kind stated which is very simple in construction, and which can be readily applied or removed.
The object stated is attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure l is a sectional view of a fragment of a furnace showing the attachment in place, the latter being also in section; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the attachment; Fig. 3 is a front elevation thereof, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the attachment provided with a protecting partition. 7
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the front of an ordinary furnace, provided with a fuel-feed opening 6 having a door 7 as usual. The oven attachment comprises a bottom plate 8 and a rear wall 9 rising therefrom and extending throughout the entire width thereof. -The attachment also has narrow side walls 10 rising from the bottom plate at the inner end thereof and joined to the rear wall.
On the inner faces of the side walls 10 are vertical guide grooves 11 designed to hold a rectangular open frame 12 carrying shelves 13, the ends of said frame seating in the grooves. The frame is removable, it being slidably mounted in the grooves. The shelves are for the .purpose of supporting potatoes or other food articles to be baked. If the fire is veryhot, the shelf can be removed and a solid sheet 14 will be mounted in the grooves 11, and as the latter are spaced from the rear wall 9, an air space is had between said wall and the sheet 14, the latter-forming a partition Which extends entirely across the interior of the oven between the side attachment will be inserted far enough so that it may be closed by the door 7.
The attachment can be cheaply made of sheet iron, and it can be easily applied or removed, no alteration in the structure of the furnace being necessary. The wall line which is next to the fire may have a facing of asbestos.
I claim 1. An oven attachment for the fuel-feed opening of furnaces, said attachment comprising a bottom plate, a rear wall and side walls rising from the bottom plate, the side walls being connected to the rear wall, and the inner faces of the side walls having vertical guide grooves which are spaced from the rear wall, and a shelf supporting frame removably mounted in said guide grooves.
2. An oven attachment for the fuel-feed opening of furnaces, said attachment comprising a bottom plate, a rear wall and side walls rising from the bottom plate, the side walls being connected to the rear wall, the
inner faces of theside walls having vertical In testimony whereof I afiiX my signaturea JOHN H. KENNEDY.
