This invention relates to childrens cribs that are provided with a movable side adapt-` ed to slide verticallyin grooves formed in the posts of the crib; and the objects of my improvement are to provide cribs of this class with hollow posts to inclose the balancing weights of the movable side, and to provide said posts with a series ot' mortises or notches to receive the outer ends of the spring-bolts attached to the movable side, said bolts being united together by a flexible connecting link or cord, that permits their simultaneous release by a single movement of the operator. I attain these objects bythe constructionV illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a front View, with one of the posts in section, of a childs crib constructed" in accordance with my-invention, the movable side being represented as lowered.4 Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section'of the same with.

In said drawings ,A, represents the front posts, and A2 the rear posts of the crib. The rear posts are united together by a slatted panel B2, and the front posts are securely heldl together by a side bar a attached to the inside thereof. The front posts have vertical grooves b in the sides facing each other to receive the ends of the movable side or slatted panel B. To support the side B at any desired height, cords c have one end attached to the ends of said side, and are made to passV over pulleys d mounted upon pivot-pins and located in slots inthe upper portion of the posts A. The opposite end of the cord c is attached to the balance-weights C, each one of which is placed within the posts A, said posts being made hollow and internally tubular to conceal the weights and guide them noiselessly while they are made to ascend or to descend under the impulse given by the user t-o the movable side B.
To retain the movable side either at the top ofrits course on the same level as the panel B2, orat the bottom of its course, or at any desired intermediate points, the hollow posts A have in the sides facing each other, a series of notches e, upwardlybeveled to automatically receive'the beveled ends of the two spring-bolts j', mounted upon the upper rail of the movable side B. To permit the operator to simultaneously release both bolts from engagement with the notches e they are united together by means of a cord g that is of sufficient length to have its middle portion looped and made to pass through a staple h secured to the upper rail of the movable side, so that a single movement of the operator will release and lower said movable side. A single movement will also be required to elevate and Ylock the movable side at any desired point.
The head-posts are united together by slatted panels K and the foot-posts by panels K2, the lower rails of which support slats L placed longitudinally of the crib. r
To cause the panel B to slide easily inthe vertical grooves b of the posts the ends of said panels are provided with pivoted rollers fm that are entirely concealed in the middle of the frame-work of said panel, but bear against the posts Within the grooves b thereof. In
place of havingrthe vertical grooves in the posts, said grooves may be on the ends of the sliding panels and tongues or rollersmade to project from said posts and enter said grooves to guide the panel.
It is evident that either side of thecrib can be provided with a sliding panel or that said crib can be provided with a sliding panel on each side, without departing vfrom the spirit of my improvement. '1
Having now fully described my invention, I claiml. In a crib the combination of the rear posts, the rear panel, the head and foot pauels, and the hollow front posts grooved in the side, with the movable front panel, cords attached thereto and passing 'over pulleys in IOD 1o vided with notches for engagement with the spring-bolts and rollers m mounted in the ends of the movable panel substantially as described.
