RACK FOR DISPLAYING PHOTOGRAPHS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,893, dated October 1'7, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS E. WOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Kalamazoo, in the county of Kalamazoo and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Rack for Displaying Photographs, of which the following is aspecifloat-ion.

My invention relates to racks for displaying photographs or cards, and more particularly to folding racks for that purpose.

The objects of my invention are to first provide a rack that can be folded into a compact form; second, to provide a rack that requires no casing to exclude dust; third, to provide a rack that can readily be attached 'to the wall or a post anywhere; fourth, to provide a rack that can be opened to any place desired without turning each section separately; fifth, to provide a folding rack in which the sections will not rub the one against the other when it is opened and closed. I accomplish these objects by the device shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a view in perspective of myinvention. Fig. 2, is a top view of the same with the sections opened near the center. Fig. 3, is a top view of the sections, alone, removed from the supporting brackets. Fig. 4, is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a back view of the top of the sections. Fig. 6, is a sectional view through one of the sections of the rack. Fig. 7, is a view in detail of a modified section adapted to display other articles than cards or pictures. Fig. 8 is a sectional view on line 8-8 of Fig. 7.

Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

To the back A is attached the brackets B, which carry the frames O, which make up my invention. The frames 0 can be made of any desired form if the back of each where the hinges are attached are straight for a distance sufficient to attach the hinges, and as thick as the thickest part of the frame. I prefer to make the frames square or rectangular. The frames, or sections of the rack are hinged the one to the other successively by the alternating hinges 00. To the back part of one of the frames or sections 0 of the rack is attached the pivots n one at the top and one at the bottom. These pivots revolve in suitable bearings in the brackets B so that the whole rack may be swung from side to side without unfolding.

The frames 0, are provided with cross bars D, which support panels Ct. The inside of the cross bars D are rabbeted out so that a groove is left at the top and bottom of the panels a. Cards or photographs t'are inserted in the frames 0 as shown in Fig. 1, the method of inserting them being shown by dotted lines in Fig. 6.

In Figs. 7 and 8 are shown details of the frame 0 modified for displaying otherarticles than cards or photographs. The cross rods m are adapted to hold laces or fabrics of a similar character. The cross bars D are shown without panels between and hollowed out so that they might hold thread in spools or ribbon in rolls and so on.

Other methods of attaching articles to the frames 0 will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art, but I prefer the method here shown.

The back A is not absolutely necessary as the brackets B might be attached to the wall where the rack is to be used. I prefer to use a back because that makes it easy to transport the rack and put it up.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a display rack, frame like sections, hinged the one to the other successively, in combination with pivots at the top and bottom of one of the sections and suitable bearings for the pivots for the purpose specified.

2. In a display rack the combination of the back A, the brackets B, the sections 0, hinged to each other successively at their backs, and the pivots 'n for the purpose specified.
