RADIATOR ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,589, dated September 26, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT J. BENNETT, of Woonsocket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Radiator Attachments; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this [0 specification.
This invention has reference to improve ments in attachments for radiators.
The object of this invention is to produce an attachment, in the nature of ashelf, which may be adjust-ably secured to the tubes of a radiator.
The invention consists in the construction of a clamping-device adapted to be secured to a radiator, and a shelf, or foot-rest, furzo nished with a shank which is adj ustably supported in the clamping-device, together with such other novel features of construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be more fully described and pointed out in the 2 5 claims.
Figure 1 represents a plan View of a clamping-device secured to a radiator-pipe, and a shelf the shank of which is supported in the clamp. Fig. 2 represents an end view of the same partly in section.

In the drawings a, indicates apipe, or tube, of a radiator. The cross-sectional size and shape of this tube may vary to suit the conditions of use, being generally larger for hot water than for steam, or to secure an artistic effect. The clamping-device is formed of two portions adapted to grasp between thema 4o portion of the pipe (1,. The part 5 of the clamp has a concave-jaw 6 extending from the base 7. At the outer end of this base is a lip 8, and perforations are formed in the base through which securing-screws 9 may extend. The larger portion of the clamp has the jaw 10 extending from a thickened-base 11 through which the curving-slot 12 is formed, the lower outer wall of this slot being furnished with the fulcrum-tooth 13. In the base 11 5c are also screw-threaded sockets in which the ends of the clamping and securing screws 9 may engage. The shelf 14 is formed of a metal grating more or less ornamented and is secured to a frame 15 havinga supportingshank 16 the rear end of which is curved, the inner curved edge having notches 17 for engaging the tooth 13 of the clamp-slot, while the curved back of the shank bears against the wall of the slot. By the use of the curved-slot l2 and the curved shank, the shelf may be adjusted at various angles with the radiator. Where it is desired to adjust the shelf to and from the radiator the slot and shank are made straight. The parts of the clamp are secured to one of the radiatorpipes, as shown in the drawings, the lip 8 separating the parts 7 and 11 a small way while the screws draw the clamp-jaws firmly against the sides of the tube.
It is evident that by a modification in the shape of the clamping-jaws the clamping-device may be adapted to grasp other portions of the radiator than the tubes. The parts of the clamp may also be separated sufficiently to embrace two or more tubes, while, if the concaved surfaces be turned outward and then interposed between two adjacent pipes,
a wedge, or other separating device, may be used to force them into intimate contact with the pipes and to securely hold them in place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent -1. A radiator-attachment, consisting of a clamping device furnished with means for engaging a shank, and a shelf having a shank adapted to be supported by the supporting device and adjustable in a vertical plane.
2. In a radiator-attachment, the combination with a two-part clamp adapted to enter between the pipes of a radiator and to be secured, and having a supporting-device in which is a shank adapted to be adjustably supported, of a shelf, and a shank for supporting the shelf, adapted to be supported by the supporting-device and radially adjustable therein in a vertical plane.
