UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM B. ELLIOTT, OF GORNING, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE SHELVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,385, dated April 29, 1873 application filed March 22, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. ELLIOTT, of Corning, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Stove-Pipe Shelves; and
I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of my shelf in position. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my shelf. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the same.
This invention has relation to stove-pipe shelves; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the brackets and cam-lever by which the shelf is secured to stove-pipes of different sizes.
In the accompanying drawing, the letter a indicates the body of the shelf, of open-work construction for lightness, and notched in one side, at b, to receive the stove-pipe. In order that differently-sized stove-pipes may be centered in this notch so that the shelf will be secure the notch is made tapering inward. Be-
the stove-pipe wall. Extending upward from each lateral edge of the stove-pipe notch are one or more hooks, d, turned toward the stovepipe.
When the shelf is to be fastened to the pipe the transverse stem or shaft 0 of the cam-lever h is engaged with a pair of these hooks and depressed, forcing the cam-head which is slightly concave transversely up against the pipe, and thus securing the shelf firmly thereto. Several pairs of hooks are provided to facilitate the adjustment to pipes of different sizes. The shelf being firmly held in rear by the camlever it cannot tip forward on account of the brackets.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cam-lever It with a concave face suspended to the transverse shaft 6, in combination with the stove-pipe shelf having the brackets c and the hooks cl extending upward from each lateral edge and turned inward toward the stove-pipe, as shown and described. v In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM B. ELLIOTT.
Witnesses:
J. S. ROBINSON, S. O. MUSTERS.
