CARRYING-STRAP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 50 4,307, dated August 29, 1893.

Application filed March 25, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, GEORGE W. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Carrying-Straps, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a carrying-strap having novel means for securing the strap, after the adjustment of the latter to a bundle or article to be carried.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a carrying-strap embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a section of a portion thereof, on line 00, on, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a transverse section on line y, y, Fig. 2. Fig. 4. represents a transverse section on line .2, .2, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 represents a bottom plan view of a portion thereof.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings: A designates a plate or bar having ears B, to which the handle O is attached. Mounted on the ends of the bar A, are loops D, which are opened at opposite sides, and through which the free ends of the straps E are passed after forming a loop around the bundle or article to be carried. Pivoted to the loops D are latches F, which have depending sides G entering the loops D, and provided with lips H, which engage with spring catches J, rising from the ends of the bar A, whereby said latches may be held in locked position. Bearing against the latches F, are springs K Whose tendency is to throw up the latches F, and hold them in elevated and open position, as shown by the dotted lines Fig. 1. Rising from the ends of the bar A, within the loops D, are flanges M, which are parallel with the depending sides G of the latches F.

The operation is as follows: The catches J are pushed outwardly, whereby the lips H are released and the latches F are thrown up. The straps are now passed through the loops and adjusted around the bundle or article to be carried, after which the latches F are lowered, and engage with the catches J whereby the portions of the straps beneath the latches are forced into the loops D, and a bite is formed by the depending sides G and the Serial No. 467,558. has been carried. The ends of the straps that are permanently connected with the bar A are held in position thereon by means of clips N, which are on the under sides of the flanges M, passed through the ends of the bar A, and clinched on the ends of the straps,

as most plainly shown in Fig. 5, by which provision the flanges are firmly connected with the bar A, and the ends of the straps are also securely attached to said bar.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A carrying strap having a bar with ears, a handle connected with said ears, straps secured at one end to said bar, loops on said bar having pivoted latches with catches, and flanges on said bar co-operating with said latches, said parts being combined substantially as described.

2. A oarrrying strap having a bar, straps secured to the outer ends of said bar, loops on said bar provided with pivoted latches having spring catches, and flanges secured to said bar within the loops, said parts being combined substantially as described.

3. In a carrying strap, a bar having a strap secured thereto, a loop on said bar, a latch with sides entering said loop, and a lip engaging a spring catch on said bar, and flanges rising from said bar and within said loop,
