To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ERNEST L. BUCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Courtenay, in the county of Stutsman and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Heme-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to hame fasteners, and has for its primary object to provide a fastener in which the hames may be readily and easily secured tightly upon a horse collar, irrespective of the size thereof, and which will enable the removal of such hames when required.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a fastener of this character in which an ordinary strap may be adjusted, so that on the closing of the fastener, the hames will be securely mounted upon a horse collar, so that such hames will be held tightly about the collar while in use.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a fastener in which the strap for connecting the hames is adjustably engaged in pivoted levers which are adapted to be opened and closed for the removal and the tightening of the hames about a collar. The levers, when closed, will draw the strap tightly for the secure fastening of the hames in position on the collar.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a hame fastener of this character which is simple in construction, strong, durable, thoroughly efficient in operation, and inexpensive in manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, com bination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevation of a fastener constructed in accordance with the invention and in position for connecting the hames, the ends of the hames being shown in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the fastener in open position. Fig. 3 is a ver tical longitudinal sectional view through the fastener when closed. Fig. 4c is a perspective view of the fastener, the same being partly open.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawing.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, the hame fastener comprises inner and outer pivotally connected levers 5 and 6, respectively, the inner lever being formed on one end at opposite longitudinal edges with out turned spaced parallel ears 7, and the outer lever 6, at opposite longitudinal edges, is formed with outturned spaced parallel forwardly tapering flanges 8, the same being connected to the ears 7 at their inner faces by means of pivots 9, so that the outer lever may be swun outwardly from and inwardly toward the inner lever 5, for a purpose presently described.

The inner and outer. levers 5 and 6are formed with inwardly curved outer hookshaped resilient extremities 10 adapted for locking engagement with each other, the said extremity 10 on the inner lever 5 being adapted for detachable engagement with the loop 11 at the lower end of one hame frame, while passed through the loop 11 on the lower end of the other hame is a strap 12, the same being adjustably connected at its ends to the inner and outer levers 5 and 6, respectively, as will be presently described.

Provided in the inner lever 5, near the inner end thereof, are spaced transverse slots 13 forming therebetween a cross bail or web 14, the same being provided with a downwardly bent angularly disposed lip or bill 15 adapted for engagement in one of a series of spaced openings formed in one end of the strap 12 when the said end of the latter is passed through the slots 13 below the bail or web 11. Thus, it will be seen that the said strap end will, in this manner, be adjustably connected to the inner lever 5. The outer lever 6, near its outer hook-like end or extremity 10, is provided with spaced transverse slots 16 forming therebetween a cross bail or web 17, the latter being provided with an upturned angularly disposed lip or bill 18 adapted to engage in any one of a series of spaced openings formed in the other end of the strap 12, when the latter is passed through the slots 16 above the bail or web 17, thereby adjustably connectin the said strap end to the outer lever 6. hus, in this manner, when the levers 5 and 6 have been swung apart, or the hame fastener opened, the strap 12 may be readily adjusted for the securing of the hames frame about a horse collar, and upon the closing of the outer lever 6, the strap will be drawn taut, tightly fastening the hames upon the other words, open the fastener, thereby for adjustably'connecting'it with the levers,

and hook-like extremities formed on the le- 1 collar. When it is desired to remove the.

hames from the collar, it is only necessary to. swing downwardly the outer lever 6, or in slackening the strap 12, so that the hook extremity 10 of the inner lever 5 may be readily and easily detached from the loop 11 of one hame frame, and upon this being done, the hames frame may be conveniently and quickly'removed from'the horse collar, as will be clearly obvious.

What is claimed is:

1. In a hame fastener, pivotally connected levers, a perforated strap adapted for engagement with the loop of onehame frame, lugsoutwardly struck from the levers for engagement in the perforations in the-strap vers for locking engagement with each other and also for detachably engaging the loopof the other hame frame.

2. A hame fastener, comprising inner and outer levers pivoted together for opening and closing movements,the said levers being formed with spaced transverse slots to provide cross bails, a downwardly extending lip formed on the hail of the inner lever, an upturned lip formed on thebail of the outer lever, a straphaving its ends adjustab'ly engaged by said lips for connecting :said strap to the levers, "respectively, an upwardly curved hooklike extremitiesformed on the outer ends of the leversa'nd engageable with the loop on 'onehame frame when the strap is engaged with the loop of the other hame frame. 7
