NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES J. IVEZEN AND JAMES EDWVARD REYNOLDS, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
NECKTlE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 560,290, dated May 19, 1896.
Application filed September 24, 1896. Serial No. 563,554. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES J. WEZEN' fication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The object of our invention is to provide a necktie or bow fastener to which the necktie can be easily and quickly attached or removed by means of a double pin pivoted on a plate, said plate being secured to a shield for the purpose of holding the necktie to the same, as fully hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a front perspective view showing the plate secured to the shield. Fig. 2 is a top view of the shield and plate, showing the bow in position. Fig. 3 is a front view of the plate detached from the shield. Fig. 4 is a top View, and Fig. 5 an end View, of the same.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throu ghout the several views.
In the drawings, A represents the shield, made of some suitable material, to which plate B is secured by means of downwardlybent spurs 6, adapted to pass through the shield and riveted on the back side thereof. One extreme end of plate B is upwardly bent to form a transverse bearing a to engage the U -shaped pin C. F rom each side of the other extreme end of plate B are inwardly and upwardly formed the two retaining-hooks b, as shown in Fig. 5, adapted to receive the two ends of pin C and holding the same in position when closed, as shown in Fig. 1. Cl are two lips or spurs pressed out from the plate B and projecting upwardly, the material of the bow between the grips of the pin when closed being pressed tightly against the ends of said lips d, thereby preventing the bow from sliding longitudinally on pin O, as shown in Fig. 2.
On the lower side of plate B and central thereto is upwardly curved the loop 0, forming a clamp for the purpose of securing an elastic band D and metallic ring E, as shown in Fig. 1
Pin 0, made from metallic spring-wire, is bent U -shaped, forming two parallel legs and the transverse bar connecting the same, said legs being pointed and adapted to pass through the material of the bow, the full length of the transverse bar of pin 0 to engage in the bearing a and pivoted therein, dotted lines, Figs. 1 and 4, showing the pin released and swung back. It will thus be seen that the bearing a, the hooks Z), the clamp c, the lips d, and spurs e are all formed from plate B, said plate to be made of aluminium or other sheet metal.
Having thus described our invention, what we desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a necktie-fastener the combination with the shield A having a plate B made of stiff material, as specified, said plate having formed upon itself the downwardly bent spurs e, the transverse bearing a, the U- shaped pin O pivoted in said bearing, the two retaining-hooks b, the lips cl, and the clamps c, as specified and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a necktie-fastener the combination with the shield having a plate secured thereto by means of the downwardly-bent spurs, one terminal of said plate recurved to form a transverse journal, the other terminal having from each side an inwardly-return bend terminating in a retaining-hook, a pin bent to form two parallel legs the cross-bar thereof pivotally engaged in the journal, the legs to pass through the material of the tie and the points thereof to engage in the retaininghooks, the upwardly-curved lips d for preventing the tie from moving longitudinally on the pin, the clamp for securing an elastic rubber band, as specified and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a necktie-fastener the combination with a shield having a plate secured thereto, said plate having formed upon itself the spurs, the journal for engaging a double pin, the retaining-hooks for receivingthe two ends of said pin, the upwardly-projectinglips or stops and the loop or clamp for the purpose of securing a rubber band, said clamp formed from the lower side of the plate and central thereto, as specified and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES J. IVEZEN. J. EDIVARD REYNOLDS.
