M. J. PINAULT. PAGE MASK FOR TREATING THE SKIN.

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
MARIE JULIETTE PINAULT, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
FACE-MASK FOR TREATING THE SKIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 495,265, dated April 11, 1893.
' Application filed July 11, 1892. Serial No. 439.575. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, MARIE J ULIETTE PI- NAULT, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Face- Masks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to that class of contrivances designed for bleaching and beantifying the skin of the human face, and for the treatment of cutaneous diseases of the face, which devices are commonly known as face-masks.
It is the object of the invention to provide a face-mask which may be charged with the desired substance or ingredients, and the latter retained in proper position in the mask, regardless of change in position of the wearers head. And the pockets being so con structed as that the ingredients in each may be renewed or changed at pleasure.
The invention consists essentially of a face mask each pocket being provided with a closable aperture or incision provided with a plurality of pockets, distributed throughout the mask, all as I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Reference is to be had to the annexed drawings, and to the letters marked thereon, the same letters designating the same parts or features, as the case maybe, wherever they occur.
Of the said drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective view of the human head showing my improved mask in position on the face. Fig. 2 is a rear view, or view of the inside, of my improved face mask. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the invention, taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings a designates the body of the mask which is provided with apertures 11 b for the eyes, 0 for the nose, and d for the mouth.
The body of the device may be made of two or more plies or sheets of silk, chamois skin, or any other soft and pliable material suitable for the purpose. bound at their edges, as at 6, with similar or diiferent material. In the present instance the body of the mask is shown as composed of two plies of what may be supposed to be silk fabric, quilted, as it were by horizontal lines of stitching f and verj designates a crown band and 7c braids or bands connecting the binding 6 with the crown band, for the purpose of holding the mask on the face, as will be understood without further description from an inspection of Fig. 1 of the drawings. I
By my invention it is made feasible to employ any ingredient or substance for the purpose of removing complexional imperfections orcutaneous disorders of the human face, and retain the remedy in desired position, besides making the mask so that the ingredients in the pockets may be readily changed or renewed through the medium of the closable incisions or apertures, one for each pocket, whereby access is had to the latter. This feature of the invention is important.
What I claim is 1. A face-mask provided with a plurality of pockets distributed throughout its entire extent, each of said pockets being provided with a closable aperture or incision, as set forth.
2. A facemask consisting of two plies of material quilted or stitched together by cross lines of stitches to form pockets, distributed throughout the extent of the mask, each of the said pockets being provided with a closable aperture as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 7th day of July, A. D. 1892.
MARIE J ULIETTE PINAULT.
