description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a side view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section on the line 26-40, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a'detail sectional view of one of the pedestals.

This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in toy carts, the object being to provide a simple and inexpensive toy for the amusement of small children.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a small cart body, mounted on the axle B, and the supporting wheels 0, C.

D, D, designate two figures orimagcs, which may be of the grotesque form illustrated in the drawings, and which are placed side by side a short distance from each other in the rear portion of the cart about over the axle B. The body portions of said figures or images are formed from paper, or other suitable thin fabric, and inclose each a spiral spring F, seated between the head portion d, and the pedestal G, said springs acting to normally hold the images in the upright position, and to return them to such position, when operated in the manner to be described.

The pedestals G, G, consist each of a circular drum-like device, comprising the upper and lower heads f, f, and the covering g of thin skin, or other suitable thin and flexible material which can be compressed without breaking or cracking. Inclosed in each drum is a coil or spiral H, which acts to normally hold it extended. Cut in the upper head is a small opening or aperture 7:, partially covered by a thin metallic tongue 7c, arranged to vibrate rapidly under the action of the air forced through said aperture.

Connecting the upper portions of the two figures is a transverse rod or bar K, secured at one end to each, at about the necks thereof, and to the central portion of this rod or bar, is connected the upper end of a cord or connecting rod K, the other end of which is connected to a crank L formed in the central portion of the axle. It will therefore be apparent that when the cart is drawn along, either forward or backward, the figures or images will be caused to bend or bow simultaneously, in a manner pleasing to small children, at the same time effecting compression of the drum-like pedestals, and the air therein, forcibly expelling such air through the aperture 7.0, and causing a rapid vibration of the tongue is, thereby producing a whistling or squawking noise. In order that the bow or bend ma always be forward, the rod or bar K connecting the images is set forward of the center of the crank movement.

The entire device can be manufactured at a slight cost, and proves highly attractive to small children.

Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patout, is-

1. The combination with a toy cart, and its cranked axle, of the images or figures supported in said cart, and connected to the crank of said axle, said images or figures having each a body portion of flexible material and inclosing a spring, substantially as specified.

2. The combination with a toy cart and its cranked axle, of the images or figures supported in said cart and operated from said crank, said images or figures having each a flexible body portion inclosing a coil or spring, and the flexible drum-like pedestals having a noise-emitting device operating when said pedestals are compressed, substantially as specified.

3. The combination with the toy cart, its cranked axle and the flexible figures or images in said cart and having a connection with the crank of said axle, ofthe pedestals on which said figures or images are supported, said pedestals comprising each a drum-like device, consisting of the upper and lower heads, the flexible covering connecting said heads, the inclosed spring, the air escape, and the vibrating tongue covering said escape, substantially as specified.
