PEDAL ATTACHMENT FOR ORGANS OR PIANO S.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,810, dated January 10, 1893.
Application filed April 30, 1892- Serial No. 481,335. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TILLIAM A. HOBDAY, of Hurley, in the county of Ashland and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Pedal Attachment for Organs, Pianos, or other Musical Instruments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Pedal attachments have been provided for organs and other keyed musical instruments which were adapted for application to the ordinary pedals and for being adjusted in height as required to serve as foot-rests for children or very short persons.
My invention is an improvement in this line, and consists in the combination of parts hereinafter specified, whereby the attachment is capable of ready attachment to pedal arms of various forms.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forminga part of this specification, in which similar figures and letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a perspective view of the at tachment applied to the pedals of a piano; Fig. 2 is a partial side elevation and partial vertical section of the device, the device being shown as connected with the pedal; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the attachment, the pedal being in transverse section; and Fig. 4 is a partial plan and horizontal section through the device, the section being taken on the line 4.4; of Fig. 2.
The device consists of a body section A, an extension section B and a clamping section 0. The body section is angular in general contour, comprising a horizontal member 10 and a vertical member 11. The horizontal member at its extremity is preferably enlarged, as shown at 12 in Fig. 4, and the vertical member 11, is provided with a longitudinal slot 13, and at the side edges of the vertical member slide ways 14:, are produced upon the outer face thereof. In the slide ways 14, the extension member B, has movement, and this extension member is provided with an attached bolt 15, which extends through the slot 13 in the body; and the boltis provided with a thumb nut 16, or the equivalent thereof. The extension member comprises a body bar to which the bolt 15, is secured, and a head 17, horizontally looated, which head is adapted to serve as a foot rest.
The under face of the horizontal member 10 of the body A, is preferably provided with an attached pad 18, as shown in Figs. 2 and 8. At opposite sides of the horizontal member of the body bolts 19, are projected downward from the extension portion 12 of that member, the bolts being preferably made fast to the body, as shown in Fig. 3. A plate 20, is located transversely of the under surface of the body section, and this plate is provided with openings through which the bolts 19, pass, the plate being held upon the bolts by means of thumb nuts 21, or the equivalents thereof. The upper surface of the plate 20, ispadded at 22, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The device is applied to the pedal in the following manner: The lower thumb nuts 21, are unscrewed until sufficient space is obtained between the plate 20 and the under face of the horizontal member of the body section to permit the pedal D, to be passed between these'surfaces; and after the body of the device has been carried backward some distance upon the pedal, for instance about the distance shown in Fig. l, the thumb nuts 21, are screwed upon the bolts 19 until the plate 20, engages with the under surface of the pedal, and clamps the pedal between it and the body of the device, as shown in Fig. 3. The device having been attached to the pedal, the thumb nut 16, is next manipulated to raise the extension section, or to lower it a proper distance to bring the foot rest 17, within convenient reach of the feet of the child using the instrument. When this adjustment of the extension section has been made it is clamped to the body and held in its adjusted position by screwing the thumb nut 16 to a firm contact with the body section, as shown in Figs. 2 and at.
